Purpose of Role

The Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is required to drive the engagement and retention of employers on Heriot-Watt talent programmes. This role will focus on recruiting to GA programmes, however, will have a wider remit in engaging with employers on all skills of the future as the primary contact for employer partners in terms of facilitating on-going positive relationships.

BRMs ensure, through a consultative approach with their employer partners that Graduate Apprenticeships are set up to succeed in a supportive environment. Through the relationship, the BRM will also identify other partnership opportunities for the wider University, including (but not restricted to) Graduate Futures, Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt Online and Research and Innovation.

Through a robust recruitment process, the BRM will ensure that employers can provide a suitable environment for Graduate Apprentices and work-based learning. The BRM will build employer relationships - focusing on developing repeat business with multiple learners joining each year - and will also be a key contact for professional bodies as a source of industry intelligence and a conduit to new prospects. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for delivering recruitment of a target number of Graduate Apprenticeships from key Scottish employer partners.  Responsible for the co-ordination and support of GA activities for both apprentices and their employers. Working with the Head of Talent Partnerships (B2B) and the Programme leads to deliver a high-quality service. Build partnerships with employers on strategic talent needs, including upskilling and bespoke solutions. Use CRM (Salesforce) to record all interactions with prospects and existing accounts - ensuring that engagement and recruitment targets are continually monitored against progress. Work with the GA Programme Directors on Recruitment and Engagement (including record keeping of apprentice and their employers), and Project team within GA office. This includes the monitoring of the recruitment process (including co-ordinating and re-directing enquiries from employers and potential apprentices) throughout the year and ensuring that responses to enquiries are prompt. Jointly responsible (with the other BRMs and the GA Senior Administrator) for updating a working database of all apprentices, their employers and work-based Mentors - which is linked to internal processes for enrolment and delivery. Contribute to the production of GA documents including marketing materials, handbooks etc. in collaboration with the Director or Apprenticeships (Academic) and the Senior Administrator. Attend various GA committees and meetings relevant to the role. Represent the GA team on University level committees responsible for marketing and projecting the University’s key messages and strategy. Assist and lead with the promotion, marketing and engagement activities for all GA activities. This includes ensuring that GA opportunities are advertised on the university website and through social media. Liaise with other University business units to support GA outreach and information provision for Schools and Colleges.

Essential & Desirable Criteria

Essential

Educated to degree level. An entrepreneurial mind-set, with agility and ability to identify and respond to new talent and innovation opportunities.  Track record in managing external corporate relationships and establishing new talent and innovation initiatives within a large organisation. Collaborative and proactive. Excellent interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills, able to understand and communicate complex issues effectively. Experience of working closely with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation. Ability to research, analyse and present complex information effectively with good attention to detail. High level planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise major developments and to function effectively in a pressured environment.

Desirable

Professional Qualification or membership of Professional body (where applicable). Experience of working in Higher or Further Education. 

Special Factors (relevant to specific role)

There may be occasional need to work outside of normal office hours or at weekends. Requirement to travel nationally (within Scotland).
