Job overview
The Barts Health Children's Therapies Speech and Language Therapy service has an opportunity within our Under 5s Social Communication Differences (SCD) team, for a band 6 speech and language therapist (0.8 WTE). We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and innovative therapist with a special interest and knowledge of working with children with social communication differences and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder, to join our Under 5s team. This post will require proficient skills in the assessment and management of pre-school children, presenting with SCD and/or Autism, as well as working with a multidisciplinary team, consisting of Occupational Therapists and Co-workers. We provide a range of interventions at a universal, targeted and specialist level, in a range of settings including online, in clinics, in children's centres and patient’s homes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is an autonomous practitioner, providing assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, and a variety of intervention programmes in the management of the under 5s caseload.
The post holder provides clinical support and may supervise more junior speech and language therapists, as well as providing day-to-day supervision of bilingual speech and language therapy (SLT) co-workers involved in providing a service to preschool / Early Years Foundation Stage children managed by speech and language therapy.
This specific post is in the Early Years Social Communication Differences Team, which supports children who have social communication differences, up until the end of Reception. The postholder may also be required to support other speech and language therapy teams working with under 5s, depending on the needs of the service.
