Main duties of the job

University Hospital Southampton is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated B6 rotational Respiratory Physiotherapist to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in the delivery of high-quality respiratory physiotherapy services, contributing to the health and well-being of our patients. As a B6 Respiratory Physiotherapist, you will work in a challenging, yet rewarding clinical environment with opportunities for professional development and career progression.

This your role is multifaceted and integral to the patient care journey. You will be responsible for the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with various respiratory conditions. This includes, but is not limited to, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, trauma, critical care, and post-operative thoracic surgery patients.

Support will be given towards your continued learning and personal and professional development.

This post is part of the wider Therapy services department. You will have many opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge through our in-service training. You will be part of a large department of over 290 wte Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff, so will have peer support available to you.

We run a 7-day therapy service so weekend working and bank holiday cover, on a roster basis, will be expected as part of your working hours.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will have a broad range of clinical experience and the ability to treat patients with care, compassion, and dignity. The successful candidate will be part of a large therapy team and will work jointly with the MDT to provide an advanced standard of physiotherapy to our patients, maximise function and facilitate safe discharge. An understanding of working in the acute setting is essential and recent NHS experience is desirable. The role will provide an excellent opportunity for career development, with a focus on clinical, leadership, and service development.

The successful applicant should have relevant postgraduate clinical experience with a desire to develop their knowledge and skills in the care of patients with a wide range of pathologies. Excellent support will be given towards continual learning and professional development, including undertaking regular audits.

Essential skills and qualifications: Qualified Physiotherapist with experience in treating patients with acute respiratory conditions Experience using NIV equipment. Proven experience in doing shifts within an acute respiratory on-call service - including intensive care, adults and children. Experience within a variety of acute areas Orthopaedics, Medicine, Elderly Care, Neuro Experience of managing, teaching, and supporting staff or students Good written and verbal communication. Expressed desire to work in respiratory care at UHS. Knowledge and understanding of NHS systems.
