Highways Operative

About us

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a front line team maintaining and improving the highways across the City. With on-site highway maintenance and/or practical highway construction experience, you will join a highly active and diverse Highway Services Construction Team undertaking repairs of a wide variety of different sized jobs on a daily basis.

You will join the Highways Construction Services front line Team working alongside other highway operatives, street lighting operatives and gully crews delivering highways repair and maintenance functions and delivery of schemes. The service is responsible for keeping the highway safe for all road users.

About the Role

As an energetic and effective Highway Operative, you will be part of a team of highway front line staff working on live highway sites. You will be required to undertake a range of road and footway repairs, including flagging and kerbing, pothole repairs and patching, using machinery and tools. Working with the gully crews, assisting with drainage problems and also responding to damage and emergencies could also be required.

You will be required to work with a variety of different operatives depending on the nature of work required. You will be the representing the face of Salford which requires behaviours that demonstrate our values.

About you

You will already have some knowledge, skills and experience in the highway construction or repair and maintenance field and be familiar with working on a live highway and what that requires in terms of Health and Safety. We're seeking someone who will not only fit seamlessly within the team but also display a commitment to continuous development and a dedication to working effectively for the City Council.

Punctuality and attendance is key to ensuring the work that is required to be delivered on a daily basis can be undertaken effectively and efficiently with site visits throughout the day across City.
