Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an Occupational therapist to join our team of highly experienced and skilled nurses and therapists on our CLCH trust, band 5 occupational therapy rotations (in Barnet Unplanned Care- Rapid Response, Discharge To Assess and Non-Weight Bearing Services, Planned Care- Community Therapy service, Inpatients and Stroke services- General Rehabilitation ward and Stroke Rehabilitation Wards).

The position will provide you with an opportunity to develop your skills in assessment of simple and complex patients and identifying their needs with developing a holistic plan. We have many staff and students joining the team throughout the year so you will be able to gain further experience in training others, supervision, and management skills.

You will be supported by a team of nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians, speech and language therapists, doctors, rehab support workers and healthcare assistants. Each ward is managed by the nurse in charge, the Matron and Clinical Therapy Lead, and operational manager in community services. At each placement clinical support will be provided by a specialist Occupational Therapist and team lead.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Band 5 rotational Occupational Therapist who has the passion for excellence in patient care and rehabilitation as well as the core areas developed from student placements (such as orthopaedics, geriatrics, general medicine/ surgery, neurology, discharge planning for home environments).

We would like to attract applicants with high levels of communication and have a flexible approach to problem solving. You will be expected to be professional, efficient in time and people management and effective in your approach.

You will work collaboratively with the therapy team leads and other highly skilled therapy staff to achieve excellence. You will be responsible for the assisting in education and management of junior staff and students with senior support. You will have the opportunity to influence the delivery of our service through service evaluation and audits and have access to training opportunities and encouraged to take up postgraduate education in your field of speciality.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To assist Specialist Physiotherapist in supervising, providing planned advice, teaching, support and instruction to therapy assistants, key workers, relatives and carers, to promote understanding of the aims of therapy intervention and to ensure a co-ordinated approach to patient care.

To delegate to, teach and supervise the work of Therapy Assistants and Technical Instructors with guidance from senior staff.

To work with other health care professionals on joint assessments, patient goals and treatment programmes in a patient centred approach.

To independently carry out rehabilitation and care programmes aimed at improving or maximising independence and reflect the clients own goals established with the MDT (addressing performance and skills deficits enabling the client in areas of self-maintenance, productivity, and leisure).
