Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for experienced associate dentists to work asa part of a team in a new created Urgent Dental Access Centre in Carlisle.

Theassociate positions are based on a minimum two session per week basis butindividual commitment will be discussed at interview.

The contracted posts are initially for a two year contract andremunerated on an attractive day rate basis.

Cumbria Health are a leading provider of primary care services acrossNorth Cumbria supporting both day time general practice and Out of Hoursalongside a number of other services and are seeking to commence the new dentalservice from beginning September 2024.

These exciting part time dental associate posts are located directly offjunction 42 of the M6 Carlisle and located in the newly establisheddental facility at Cumbria HealthHeadquarters, CumbriaHealth Limited 4 Wavell Drive Rosehill Industrial Estate Carlisle.

The practice focus is urgent dental care provisionand dental stabilisation. The service will be wholly NHS.

Each newly equipped surgery has digital radiographyand the practice digital DPT.

The new team will have dentists and therapistsnurses and a practice manager working to deliver high quality care to thepeople of Carlisle and wider North Cumbria communities.

Candidates are expected to have at least 4 yearspostgraduate experience and are asked to submit a letter of application alongwith their CV.

Main duties of the job

Theassociate dentist will discharge responsibilities and undertake dutiesnecessary for the proper fulfilment of the service contract(s) into which theclinical directorate has entered.

Thesewill cover the main areas set out below, but may be modified as necessitated bythe service agreements or service contracts then in operation.

Theprovision of high quality general dental care to patients resident in thelocality served by the clinic under NHS regulations.

Theexamination and appropriate treatment, to a high standard, of people eligiblefor treatment within the associate dentist clinics. The patients include adultsand children who do not currently have a GDP.

Theappropriate recall, transfer or discharge of patients at the end of theiragreed course of treatment according to NICE guidelines.

Supervisionof dental therapists and/or dental hygienists, in accordance with the AncillaryDental Workers Regulations (1968) and subsequent amendments.

Participationin activities relating to the promotion of quality of service, including asystem of clinical governance, which involves clinical audit and a peer reviewprocess.

Job responsibilities

Participationin the corporate functioning of the UDAC, including the processes of:

businessplanning; resourcemanagement; compliancewith agreed service specifications or contracts; performancemonitoring. Asone of a group to clinicians in the udac, the post holder will be required toaccept their full share of responsibility for the performance of thedirectorate.

Oversightof the day-to-day organisation and management of the dental premises at whichthe dentist works, with particular reference to:

themanagement of the clinics to ensure that workload is scheduled and completed ontime; themaintenance of proper standards appropriate to a clinical area, includingcontrol of infection procedures; theefficient and effective use of resources; themaintenance of confidentiality of personal health data, including patientrecords, in accordance with established procedures; themaintenance of high standards of conduct in relation to patients and thegeneral public; theproper application of operational procedures issued regarding the provision ofdental services.

Participationin such continuing education or training as may be considered necessary forpersonal development or organisational needs.

Establishingliaison with colleagues in the dental profession, other health care professionsand voluntary and local authority organisations, in order to promote:

thedental and general health care of individual patients; theprovision of dental services to particular care groups within the population asa part of the overall provision of health care to those groups.

Appropriatereferral of patients to secondary and tertiary services where clinicallyindicated

Otherduties appropriate to the grade, and including special projects, as determinedby the Clinical Director. To undertake other duties commensurate with thisgrade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.

Toengage in an annual staff appraisal process with the Clinical Director

Tominimise the organisations environmental impact wherever possible, includingrecycling, switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not inuse.

Helpingto reduce paper waste by minimising printing/copying and reducing water usage,reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly and minimising travel.

Wherethe role includes the ordering and use of supplies or equipment the post holderwill consider the environmental impact of purchases.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

Basic Life Support Compliant with training in core CPD determined by GDC Compliant with training in Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice Knowledge of SDCEP and FGDP(UK) guidance around prescribing in dental practice Legislative framework governing the delivery of oral health care in England.

Desirable

Knowledge of legislation and guidance around process of consent Proven experience and competence in routine minor oral surgery Training in the identification, management and treatment of urgent and emergency dental care clinical presentations Knowledge of SOE dental software.

Qualifications

BDS or equivalent Dental Foundation Training completed (or equivalence achieved) NHS England Performer List registration
