The Genomic Practitioner will work alongside the Genetic Counselling team to support the delivery of a high-quality clinical genetics service. This stimulating role will involve elements of direct clinical care, family information management and research.

The Genomic Practitioner will be responsible for sensitively gathering information from patients before and after clinics to support their assessment, including family history details. They may be asked to focus on a specific area of care, such as the inherited cardiac service, and may have the opportunity to support multi-disciplinary meetings across the region.

With guidance, the Genomic Practitioner will liaise with other departments and NHS trusts to obtain relevant information, including confirming diagnoses and test results.

The post holder will have a direct clinical role in supporting the consent and sample process for patients who have been identified for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) testing.

As part of their patient support role, the Genomic Practitioner will also assist the research team in increasing opportunities for patients to participate in research, and supporting patient registries for inherited and rare disease. This role requires excellent interpersonal abilities, experience in a clinical setting and strong organisational skills.

The Peninsula Clinical Genetics Service includes three offices in Exeter, Plymouth and Truro. Our welcoming team includes Genetic Counsellors, 2 STP trainees, Consultants, 2 SpRs as well as a Family History and Administrative team. The counties of Devon and Cornwall offer a high quality of life. The region, named as the ‘best place to live in the UK’ in national surveys, is located close to miles of stunning coastline and enjoys a lively cultural scene.

Working Pattern: hours per week, Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm

Pay - The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 4-5 rates, inclusive of a pay award implemented from October 4. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 4 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 3-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 3/ | NHS Employers).
