We are seeking 2 Plumbing Technicians who will be members of LPT Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) team and will carry out withminimum supervision, maintenance, fault finding, repairs and installation workon all facilities, plant and equipment throughout the LPT estate.

Working on the full range of Estates Services equipment,the Plumbing Technician will undertake activities which require comparison ofa range of options, complex facts requiring analysis to resolve technicalissues in on multifaceted equipment/situations many of which have a directimpact on patient safety and the built environment.

You will deputise for the Senior Estates Manager on the full range of management duties as well as providing technical advice to other Estates Staff, Clinical Colleagues and 3rd Party Contractors.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

You will provide an emergency out of hours service, working a rotating shift pattern covering 365 days a year subject to appropriate negotiations. Manufacture, design, assemble, erect andinstall new work often using own judgement, requiring accuracy and precision. Problem solve technical issues andfault diagnosis on complex Mechanical systems. Observe statutory and other relevantrequirements in particular to Health & Safety and Codes of Practiceapplicable to Operational Services. Respond to switchboard and buildingmanagement system alarms. eg. Fire alarms, lift trappings, Medical Gas Alarms,Boiler Alarms. Lead and manage contractor teamsdelivering project work inclusive of consultants,contractors and agency staff as projects develop. Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance andDay to Day duties involving the maintenance of all types of plant, equipmentand installations, including boilers, water testing, stripping down boilers forinsurance inspections and electrical system maintenance including fire alarmsystems, batteries and uninterruptible power supplies. Responsible for calibration and fault finding on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment including various voltage systems, steam raising plant and associated equipment, steam sterilizers, medical gas systems, nurse call systems, lighting, fire detection, building services controls, standby generator plant, heating and ventilation control systems and refrigeration plant.

Essential

Responsive and customer focused. Excellent communication skills both verbal and in written format. Skilled and experienced negotiator. Ability to work independently and without supervision. Knowledge of various Health and Safety legislation as applicable to core trade, ensuring the well being of staff, patients and visitors. Judgement is required regarding a range of facts and situations that require analysis where there is more than a straightforward choice of options regarding required work. Knowledge of and ability to carry out minor works of other trades after attending appropriate training. Ability to lead and work within a multi-disciplinary team and also function independently.

Qualifications

Essential

HND or equivalent experience or willing to work towards a HND City & Guilds 232 or 236 or 205 Course 596 Plumbing Advanced Certificate Or Course 569 Plumbing Craft Certificate Or Equivalent NVQ Level 3 Craft Certificate Completion of recognised and registered CITB or EITB apprenticeship

Desirable

Evidence of continuing professional and managerial development. Professional membership of an appropriate body Electrical/Mechanical Degree Sound understanding of management processes & contracts.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working on breakdowns and PPM on technical mechanical, steam raising, and electrical plant found in a hospital environment. Experience of working on new installations, control systems, plant and equipment breakdowns, fault finding, rectifications and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on a wide range of technical mechanical, steam raising and electrical plant and equipment found in a typical complex engineering or healthcare environment. Well organised and ability to analyse highly complex and technical facts or situations and exercise a high level of judgment in arriving at decisions. Ability to communicate contentious or complex information in emergency situations at all levels of the Trust ensuring understanding and co-operation are achieved. Experience of managing contractors and consultants Proven track record of leading and managing a diverse team. Able to prioritise own workload
