Job summary

Are you an innovative and dynamic cardiac scientist looking for a new challenge? We are looking for someone with a passion for cardiac science who can lead the imaging service, including the roll out of echo into our Community Diagnostic Centre's and developing non-medical led imaging services.

Working alongside eight Cardiologists, the department provides a wide range of complex cardiac and respiratory investigations. This includes cardiac and metabolic stress testing, transthoracic, trans-oesophageal and stress echocardiography. There is also a significant paediatric echo service which could be expanded if the post holder has an interest in CHD. We are part way through the implementation of a large dedicated Cardiology IT system which will pull together all the clinical and administrative systems across the department. We are also planning new scientist led services such as valve surveillance clinics and exercise stress echo and we would be keen for the new member of staff to lead those projects.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the successful candidate to engage in service development and re-design, site management, budgetary management, and staff management as delegated by the head of service, all within a supportive and nurturing environment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will coordinate the imaging team, with oversight of the non-invasive team, as well as being clinically active with patient clinics. You will be expected to have:

Job responsibilities

You will need to be an AHCS registered practitioner or HCPC registered Clinical Scientist, with a relevant master's level qualification or doctorate. You should have relevant professional qualifications and evidence of post graduate development is essential. This post is suited to a Registered Clinical Scientist however consideration will be given to those currently part way through the AHCS equivalence process. We hope to support staff through the HSST programme in the future.

We pride ourselves on developing our staff to their very best potential. All of our cardiac science team are trained to the highest level. We actively promote career progression are passionate about encouraging professional development. We are looking for someone who is keen to develop their colleagues as well as themselves, and so the ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leadership, mentoring, teaching and developing junior staff and students. You should have experience of the STP programmes. We are currently supporting staff to undertake MSc level clinical qualifications as well as providing mentorship and support to those applying for registration as a Clinical Scientist. We have a dedicated training budget which allows staff to attend national and international educational events.
