Job summary

Our exciting multidisciplinary radiology service is looking to recruit a new radiographer to join our small friendly dedicated team, delivering a high-quality dynamic radiology service to our patients in the New Forest and surrounding areas.

We welcome applications from final year student radiographers and qualified HCPC registered diagnostic radiographers who have a desire to develop and build on their newfound skills.

LNFH is a busy, community hospital facilitating Local GP services, on site clinics, theatre cases, ward work and an Urgent Treatment Centre, situated just outside the attractive Hampshire town of Lymington, situated on the south coast - well known for its sailing facilities and the New Forest National Park. It is in proximity to both Southampton and Bournemouth with good road, rail and air links. We work closely with the acute Trusts of Winchester, Southampton and Bournemouth.

There is free on-site hospital parking for staff. The department is located on the ground floor with windows overlooking the forest wildlife. The department has a comfortable, bright staff room and has the option of outdoor seating during the summer months.

We have a completely digital radiology department - the facilities include general x-ray suites, a C-arm fluoroscopy suite, mobile image intensifier for use in operating theatres, DXA scanning suite and Ultrasound suites. In addition, we are very lucky to have new "state of the art" Siemens Altea MRI scanner and a Canon Genesis CT scanner.

Main duties of the job

*To perform a range of X-ray procedures, producing high quality diagnostic X-ray images and providing excellent patient care

*To work primarily at Lymington New Forest Hospital (LNFH) and in our community sites at Hythe and Romsey following an appropriate induction period

*To participate in extended day working as required ( 08:00 -- 18:00)

*To participate in the on-call out of hours service (, provided to the Urgent Treatment Centre and hospital wards at LNFH

*To ensure ongoing professional registration

*Maintain a commitment to continuing professional development and a high level of technical and theoretical skills

Job responsibilities

*To perform complex radiographic procedures to a high quality standard, contributing to the delivery of an effective and responsive radiology service

*To be responsible for ensuring that important and often life threatening information seen on the images is communicated to the referring team / reporting radiologist or senior radiographer for immediate action

*To act as a Practitioner and operator under IR(ME)R 2000 for Digital Radiography examinations -- primary responsibility to optimise the practical aspects of the exposure for which they are responsible

*Ensure radiation doses are as low as reasonably practicable to patients, staff and visitors, balancing clinical necessity with the dangers of exposing them to ionising radiation

Main tasks / overview of responsibilities

*Take ownership of the quality assurance of own work and prioritise own workload when required

*Utilise a wide range of radiographic techniques to a high-quality standard and have the ability to modify these techniques when appropriate, taking into account the patient's condition

*Ensure ongoing competency when working independently in theatres and undertaking mobile radiography, identify any shortfalls to a senior member of staff

*Use equipment safely and appropriately, and report any malfunctions to the appropriate senior staff

*Ensure the care and comfort of patients in the department at all times

*Maintain a safe and tidy working environment and high standards of equipment cleanliness

*To deal effectively and responsibly for the safe disposal of, blood, bodily fluids and sharps

*Observe and maintain the highest possible working standards, observing departmental procedures and protocols

*Deal initially with patient concerns and complaints and escalate the issues to a more senior radiographer when appropriate

*Extend and maintain good working relationships with departmental colleagues and other staff within the hospital

*Work as a multi-disciplinary team member to ensure efficient and effective patient management. Prioritise own workload to efficiently manage service provision

*Develop of own skills and knowledge and contribution towards the development of others

*Personally aspire to maintain high ethical and professional standards in attitude at work. This will include punctuality and appearance

*Communicate regularly through meetings with teams and individuals

*Undertake all mandatory training and regular updates as specified by the Trust, and any other appropriate training to comply with future legislation and development of future Trust policies. Attend relevant in-house educational and audit sessions

*Ensure and maintain working knowledge when using departmental computer information systems

Qualifications

Essential

DCR or in Radiography HCPC registration or pending in the case of newly qualified Evidence of CPD. Computer Literate Experience of IR(me)R 2000and IRR regulations in clinical practice Student placement in an NHS Trust Radiology department Ability to demonstrate clarity and breadth in use of English language
