Legal and Company Secretariat department is responsible for ensuring that all legal and regulatory risks in the UK operations of Bank of China are identified, managed and mitigated, while good and efficient corporate governance is maintained and enhanced. As a Paralegal, you will be responsible to provide paralegal support to the department and to assist the Head of Department with legal administrative tasks.  This is a key role that will assist and help the department to achieve its mission of providing full legal coverage and support across all of the Bank’s business. This is a full time permanent position.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide paralegal support to the department, including performing discrete research tasks on applicable regulations, laws and legal scholarship
  • Work closely with the Head of Department to provide administrative and legal support on critical departmental tasks  
  • Collect and organise papers for the team to review on a given matter
  • Keep files organised and up to date in any format
  • Draft formal legal documents including correspondence with clients and other parties
  • Prepare reports for lawyers on litigation matters
  • File documents such as with other parties, at Companies House and at Court
  • Organise meetings with clients and with external counsel
  • Liaise with third parties such as external counsel
  • Maintain good relationship with external counsel
  • Responsible for minute-taking during meetings
  • Assist to coordinate responses to Head Office requests for information
  • Maintain subscriptions with third party providers and keep relationships under review
  • Ensure reporting and escalation of legal risk and matters as required

Requirements

  • Degree educated, LLB or an equivalent plus conversion course
  • Demonstrated experience in an in-house legal function
  • Solid technical legal skills and research capabilities
  • Able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Adaptable and flexible to changing circumstances
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
