Job summary

Applications are invited for a part-time Assistant Research Psychologist post (Band 4) for 1 year. Applicants should be graduate psychologists, ideally with some experience of working within an NHS context or on initiatives relating to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

The post is an exciting opportunity to support the development and implementation of EDI initiatives on the doctoral course at the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology Training and Research.

A key role of the post-holder will be to support the delivery of a mentoring scheme for aspiring psychologists from ethnically diverse communities.

A key role of the post-holder will be to support the delivery of a mentoring scheme for aspiring psychologists from ethnically diverse communities.

The post-holder will also have the opportunity to be involved with a range of initiatives on the course. Such initiatives include aiming to support equity of access to training for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds and, broader EDI work on the course.

This role will involve assisting with the delivery of training and workshops, liaising with, and presenting to local NHS teams, organising events relating to the mentoring scheme and other careers events, regularly meeting with mentors and mentees on the scheme and assisting with evaluation of the mentoring scheme and other EDI initiatives.

Applications from individuals from ethnically diverse communities are particularly welcomed. This role will involve a mixture of in-person and remote work.

Job responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To work closely with the course EDI Lead to develop and implement the third round of the course mentoring scheme To assist with producing adverts and managing applications from mentees To assist with the recruitment of mentors (trainees and staff working locally in the NHS) To be a point of contact and respond to queries from mentees and mentors Liaising with psychologists working locally and nationally To support the organisation and delivery of workshops and training for mentees and mentors To maintain databases with details of mentees and mentors To assist with the evaluation of the mentoring scheme To regularly meet with the EDI Lead to provide updates on the scheme To write brief reports relating to the mentoring scheme To carry out literature reviews on key areas relating to EDI work on the course To contribute to the development of resources for the mentoring scheme and other course initiatives To support work in the Access and Outreach group on the course To support work in EDI forums on the course Attendance at supervision will be expected, and at appropriate team meetings Administrative duties related to the project Other duties appropriate to the grade as directed by the EDI Lead Work within the guidelines set out by the Data Protection Act, the Code of Ethics, and with full understanding of confidentiality issues Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Degree ( or above) in psychology or related area

Further Training or Job Related Aptitude and Skills

Essential

Good database management skills. Basic analytical skills and experience of data entry, cleaning, and organisation of files. Ability to write clearly and concisely and produce reports quickly and accurately. Good organisational skills

Experience

Essential

Lived experience/awareness of facing barriers relating to being from a minoritised background. General computing skills including experience of excel and SPSS. Experience of psychological research and taking the lead with maintaining project databases.

Desirable

Lived experience/awareness of facing barriers relating to being from an ethnically diverse community. Experience of working on initiatives relating to equality, diversity, and inclusion (including mentoring schemes). Experience of facilitating training events and workshops. Experience of working within the guidelines of the Data Protection Act and an understanding of the code of ethics and confidentiality in research.

Knowledge and Qualities (from statement)

Essential

A strong understanding of the barriers that may be faced by aspiring clinical psychologists from minoritised backgrounds Graduate level knowledge of psychological research methodology. Able to produce correspondence, reports, emails, presentations, project plans and spreadsheets, including delegated responsibility for projects, assignments, and the production of reports. Able to concentrate on specific and demanding matters, whilst dealing with unplanned interruptions and the ability to work to strict deadlines. Ability to spend part of the working week at the course base. Flexibility to work some irregular hours to fit with the co-delivery of workshops/training/careers events. Ability to travel between sites.

Desirable

Knowledge of the needs and barriers that may be faced by individuals from ethnically diverse communities. Knowledge of initiatives relating to equality, diversity and inclusion and anti-racism.
