Job summary

Due to the ongoing expansion of our Thoracic ACP team, we are recruiting proactive and adaptable individuals from nursing, paramedic or AHP professional backgrounds to join our Thoracic surgery team. We are recruiting for either qualified or trainee ACPs.

This role will be based predominantly at QE hospital in the Thoracic Surgery Department, but the successful applicants may be required to work on other sites within the trust and will also be required to work shifts and unsocial hours including weekends and nights.

Thoracic surgery is busy and dynamic, providing assessment and management for a variety of specialist thoracic conditions. Working alongside members of the medical and nursing staff, the ACPs provide continuity, knowledge and clinical skill in order to improve patient care and management from referral to discharge and beyond.

While experience of surgical environment is preferable for these positions, training and support will be provided to the right candidates without this specific background who shows genuine enthusiasm for the specialty. We welcome interest from qualified ACPs from surgical and non-surgical backgrounds and from those who would like to undergo training to become an ACP in thoracic surgery. You are strongly advised to contact a member of the ACP team to discuss further prior to application. Successful applicants will be supported to undertake all academic requirements for the role, alongside the completion of the HEE Advanced Clinical Practitioner curriculum.

When applying for a trainee ACP position applicants may:

*Be new to the ACP role with a planned commencement date in autumn 2024

*Be undertaking academic modules towards an advanced practice MSc funded by NHSE

*Currently be part of an ACP apprenticeship pathway (discussion with the ACP consultant Lead is required prior to applying to ensure feasibility of transfer if currently employed in a differing trust)

When applying for a Qualified ACP position applicants may:

*Be undertaking basic surgical skills.

*Surgical First Assistants and Enhanced Surgical First Assistants training.

Essential for any applicant:

*Current registration with the NMC/HCPC

*Non-medical prescriber (NMP) qualification or the professional ability to undertake this

*Professional Healthcare Registration with a UK Regulatory Body ( NMC / HCPC / GPC) *Post Graduate Qualification in specific speciality or equivalent experience *MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice/ Level 7 equivalent portfolio or minimum of 120 CATs and working towards full MSc (must cover all 4 Pillars of advanced clinical practice )-- Portfolio must include evidence of health assessment module at Level 7 *Non -- Medical Prescribing Course -- where applicable to registration *Advanced Life Support Qualification *Recognised Teaching & Assessing/ Mentoring Qualification / Course

Experience

*Extensive post registration experience at a senior level (Band 7 or above) in specialty area including significant and relevant senior clinical and leadership experience *Evidence / experience of working in an MDT within a health care provider service *Evidence of on-going CPD *Evidence of teaching in a variety of environments *A sound knowledge of professional priorities and issues relating to NHS care provision *A knowledgeable clinician with ability to ensure clinical governance is embedded in practice *Sound understanding of evidence based practice and its application
