Job summary

To ensure the systematic provision and evaluation of a highly specialised stroke neuropsychology service operating within hyper-acute and acute stroke units at the Princess Royal University Hospital. To provide clinical expertise in neuropsychological rehabilitation and leadership for the service operating at the PRUH site with strategic direction and support from the Head of Neuropsychological Rehabilitation. To provide clinical supervision to other Clinical Psychologists and Clinical Neuropsychologists within the service and to provide stand in supervision for other Clinical Psychologists/Neuropsychologists within the trust as required. To provide direct neuropsychological assessment and intervention and to offer advice and consultation on clients' neuropsychological care to other members of the team/service in relation to the area of expertise. To work autonomously within professional practice guidelines, service policies and procedures and Trust guidelines. To propose and implement policy and service development, undertake research, service evaluation and audit for own team/service and to contribute to the training of clinical psychologists and others.

Main duties of the job

To provide professional and clinical supervision and line management to clinical (neuro) psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists providing direct lines of governance for existing staff.

To provide advice, consultation, training and supervision to staff working with the client group.

Implementing appropriate and effective clinical governance procedures, based on up to date familiarity with local and national policies and guidelines relevant to the delivery of acute and outpatient stroke care.

To provide expertise in a highly specialist clinical area in relation to neuropsychological care for patients and families affected by stroke. This includes providing highly specialist clinical neuropsychological evaluation of patients (including neuropsychological formulation and assessment, self-report measures, as appropriate), structured observations, clinical interviews, and to interpret and integrate this highly complex data.

The development and monitoring of neuropsychological treatment programmes within a multidisciplinary context. This includes formulating psychologically based treatment management plans which are specific to each client based upon an analysis of complex factors contributing to the presentation, and selectively drawing on appropriate conceptual and theoretical models within the context of acute neurorehabilitation.

Implementing appropriate and effective clinical governance procedures, based on up to date familiarity with local and national policies and guidelines relevant to the delivery of acute and outpatient stroke care. Ensuring that the effectiveness of interventions is consistently monitored and evaluated, at both individual client and group level and that this information in reported in a timely manner. Ensuring that all information concerning patients assessment and treatment is communicated effectively and that all necessary clinical documentation is prepared to a high standard. Doctoral level qualification in clinical psychology. HCPC registered clinical psychologist

Experience

Essential

Significant (4 + years) post doctoral experience working within an acute neuropsychology setting and particularly stroke. Experience of post qualification psychological work with clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature. Experience of professional line management of qualified and pre qualified clinical psychologists in a neuropsychology setting.
