Teaching Personnel is seeking a motivated and passionate Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Cheadle, Stockport. This full-time role begins in October and will run until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of becoming a permanent position depending on performance.

Role Overview: As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will provide essential support to both students and teaching staff, with a focus on helping students overcome barriers to learning. Your background in psychology will be invaluable in understanding students' needs and implementing strategies to support their academic and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, particularly those with special educational needs (SEN) or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, helping them to engage with their learning.
  • Classroom Assistance: Work closely with teachers to create an inclusive classroom environment, assisting with lesson delivery and ensuring all students can participate fully.
  • Behavioural Interventions: Utilize your psychology background to help develop and implement behavioural strategies that support positive student outcomes, working alongside teachers and pastoral staff.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and report on student progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to the development of individualized learning plans.
  • Mentorship: Act as a mentor and role model to students, offering guidance on academic and personal challenges, and promoting positive mental health and well-being.
  • Communication: Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals as needed to ensure a coordinated approach to each student's care and education.
  • Learning Resources: Assist in the preparation of learning materials and resources tailored to the needs of individual students or groups.
  • Classroom Management: Support teachers in managing classroom behaviour, helping to maintain a positive and productive learning environment.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Psychology or a related field.
  • A strong interest in working with young people, particularly those facing educational and emotional challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • An understanding of SEN and SEMH and how these can impact learning.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting students and teachers in a dynamic school environment.
  • Experience working in an educational setting is advantageous but not essential.
