As Assistant Gardener, you’ll be working with a team to deliver the day-to-day care of the garden and maintain high presentational standards. 

This role will include a range of practical tasks to develop, improve and look after the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects. The main elements of the role will therefore be made up of mowing using a commercial ride on mower alongside push mowing and strimming.

What it's like to work here

In this role, you’ll report to the Head Gardener. The Gardens team is made up of 4 full time Gardeners plus the Head Gardener who work alongside a large team of volunteers come rain or shine. The Gardens team are part of a wider team at Attingham made up of a wide range of departments who through working together make Attingham the special place it is.

What you'll be doing

Daily responsibilities alongside the main tasks of mowing and strimming may include assisting with the planting and maintaining of shrubs borders, mulching and hedge cutting. You’ll work alongside the Gardeners and a team of volunteers. You’ll talk to the public every day, answering a variety of garden-related questions and talking about what you are doing with pride. We’re looking for someone with a practical approach and an enthusiasm for plants. The role can sometimes be physically challenging, and we use a wide range of machinery and equipment to help us get our work done. The use of machinery such as tractors, hedge trimmers and pedestrian mowers is essential however training will be provided.
