Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen on Ward 31 at Tunbridge Wells Hospital. We are looking for a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse with an interest in acute orthopaedic trauma nursing and who is highly motivated and enthusiastic about providing the best possible care for our patients whilst sharing our vision and values in best practice.

Main duties of the job

We require someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as an organised person with a positive attitude who is flexible and proactive. You should have excellent leadership skills and be a good role model as you will be required to lead junior members of the team.

You will be responsible for managing and coordinating patient care on the ward, completing thorough nursing assessments, patient feedback surveys, participating in audits as well as supporting the Ward Manager with length of stay and delivering and improving the quality of care within the ward. We are a friendly, modern, forward thinking ward promoting evidence based high standards of patient care. The Orthopaedic Practice Development Team will also support your transition into your new role.

Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

Job responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Experience/Knowledge

Experience at band 5 level or equivalent in a surgical/orthopaedic environment Experience in acute nursing. Ability to manage change. Knowledge of clinical audits A working knowledge of the use of research in developing nursing care and clinical protocols Understanding of principles and processes involved in Clinical Governance Have an in-depth knowledge of the issues surrounding the scope of professional practice and accountability
