If you're creative, flexible, and committed to helping young people thrive, this could be the perfect opportunity for you

Why Join Us?

As a Learning Mentor, you’ll have the chance to build a trusting, supportive relationship with a young person, fostering their emotional security and helping them engage in learning in a way that suits their unique needs. This role is all about creating a safe, fun, and encouraging environment that promotes both personal growth and academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in Fun Activities: Participate in arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and the young person’s hobbies (like horse riding and animal care) to build rapport and make learning enjoyable.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the young person’s safety at all times, following safeguarding protocols and addressing any concerns appropriately.
  • Collaborate with Professionals: Work closely with therapists, educational psychologists, and other professionals to provide coordinated care and contribute to the young person’s individual support plan.
  • Creative and Flexible Approach: Adapt activities to suit the young person’s interests and sensory sensitivities, ensuring a supportive and engaging environment.
  • Progress Tracking: Monitor the young person’s progress, providing regular updates to their family and the professional team, while celebrating achievements and adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Promote Independence: Encourage the development of life skills, confidence, and self-esteem through supportive, hands-on interactions.
Who We're Looking For:

We’re searching for someone with a fun, engaging, and creative personality who can connect with young people in a meaningful way.

Essential Criteria:
  • Proven experience working with young people with Autism, Dyslexia, and PDA.
  • Experience supporting children with school-based trauma and anxiety.
  • A solid understanding of Autism and PDA, including managing demand avoidance and sensory sensitivities.
  • Ability to engage in activities such as arts, crafts, animal care, or outdoor pursuits.
  • Strong safeguarding awareness with a commitment to following protocols.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Knowledge of PDA strategies and approaches.
  • Experience in outdoor education or working with animals/nature-based activities.
  • Qualifications in SEN, mentoring, or child development.
