Job summary

The Clinical Nurse Specialist is an experienced registered nurse with specialist skills to assess and treat dermatology patients and manage the clinical environment, in liaison with the management and consultant team. The nurse will act as an autonomous practitioner in forming clinical decisions and complex management plans in the assessment and treatment of patients. In conjunction with senior nursing and consultant staff formulate the development of clinical guidance for all aspects of clinical practice within the clinical speciality. The post holder will work closely with the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues to ensure that high quality patient care is maintained.

Main duties of the job

Nurse Led follow up clinics

- Provide advice and guidance to follow up patients- Managing NHS patients in the Private sector helping in the reduction of NHS waiting lists.- Work independently managing own workload for dermatology clinics for breaking bad news at diagnosis, general dermatology follow up clinics.- Work closely with Consultants on follow up appointments.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Broad clinical experience relevant to the post, including specialist skills and experience in speciality. Experience of running own clinics. Experience of teaching patients and staff and others including health promotion and prevention orientation. Demonstrate evidence of engaging stakeholders and influencing the development and improvement of practice, patient care and service delivery.

Desirable

Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of speciality with a wide range of approaches to the management of patients, demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning and be able to comprehensively assess patients for risk factors and early signs of illness. Ability to translate and integrate evidence-based research/guidelines into the development of local pathways of care.

Qualifications

Essential

- NMC Registration - Minimum 12 months NHS experience. - A Masters qualification/in progress or equivalent experience.

Desirable

Be an independent prescriber according to the CCGs Non-medical prescribing policy
