Brief Description
The role
We are excited to be introducing a Senior Examiner into our Singlewell team.
To deliver the programme of examinations of structures and buildings for the High Speed assets and report on their condition with high levels of safety and quality to the required standards.
Key Accountabilities:
1.Safety Lead for the delivery of visual and detailed examinations of structures, tunnels and buildings, to ascertain the required level of asset information for each structure and its elements.
2.Lead and develop additional examinations and monitoring to consider the condition of structures or elements of structures outside of the examination cycle; correctly and accurately using monitoring equipment.
3.Drive and deliver the completion of examinations of structures in a manner which is safe, systematic and logical for the type of structure and access constraints verifying that no aspects cited in the relevant standards are omitted.
4.Deliver and audit the Investigation of defects and deterioration in sufficient detail to identify all aspects of the severity and extent of any changed condition or situation including all preparation, on site observations and appropriate post examination reporting.
5.Deliver and mentor examiners to appraise the condition of structures using approved methods, taking account of material type and prevailing conditions and safe systems of work.
6.Investigate the recording of any aspects not examined accurately and changes in condition, and provide solutions and effective means of delivering improvements at the next examinations.
7.Improve the quality of technical reporting when identifying the findings of examinations, including all sketches and spreadsheets required and develop eff.
8.Complete scoping visits and audits to determine requirements and compliance of examinations.
9.Be the lead examiner and control aspects of work in association with access, safe delivery, and continuous improvement.
10.Undertake on-call duties to act as Bridge Strike Nominee or Bridge Strike Examiner.

Do you have:
Essential
·Significant Experience of undertaking & delivering programmes of structural examinations, recording defects and reporting on the findings for a variety of structure types and materials which may include tunnels, viaducts, bridges (over, under and foot), subways, retaining walls, culverts , buildings, concrete, steel, cast iron and masonry.
·Broad knowledge of structural behaviour for civil engineering and building assets.
·Excellent written and oral communications skills.
·The ability to read, understand and work to technical standards, reports and drawings, for the examination of structures.
·Excellent technical report writing skills with experience in the use of Microsoft Office.
·Significant experience of delivering work safely in a safety critical environment.
·At least two competencies for the Examination of Structures (STE4, STE5 and STE6 competencies) or equivalent in a comparable infrastructure discipline.
·Relevant experience in leading and developing people and delivering programmes of work effectively.
·Lead examiner and self management skills.
·Full UK Driving Licence.
Although it isn't essential, it would be helpful if you have:
·STE1 / STE2 competency
·Knowledge of the railway industry including high speed and traditional UK rail environments.
·Bridge strike nominee or bridge strike examiner competency.
·Experience in Structures Condition Marking Index (SCMI) & Tunnel Condition Marking Index (TCMI).
·NRHS Danger Zone and Safe Zone Entry Permits & Rail Safety Leader (Training Provided)
·Safety leadership training/experience.
·Confined spaces competency.
·Sentinel PTS.
·Relevant health and safety qualifications and training
This role involves days, nights and weekend working, and is a safety critical role so subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment.
