This is a opportunity for a new role of clinical lead physiotherapist in general surgery at York Hospital.

You will have excellent clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and enjoy working as part of a supportive multi professional team. You will work collaboratively with system partners to improve the quality of patient care and ensure outcomes are monitored and reported on with clinical scrutiny. You will work closely with the team manager, AHP senior manager, professional lead and other clinical leads / advanced clinical specialists to offer advice and clinical expertise on local and national strategy. 

You will work mindfully in accordance within the four pillars of practice, providing support and guidance to the wider team. You will autonomously to manage a patient caseload and have oversight of the patients within general surgery and take the lead for enhanced recovery. 

You will also be required to work collaboratively with the advanced clinical specialist in critical care to provide training and education for the respiratory on-call service. 

Main duties of the job

Manage a complex clinical caseload within surgery services .  Clinically lead across our surgery service at York hospital and work collaboratively with colleagues at our East Coast sites.  Provide clinical leadership while working within the Four Pillars of practice. Keep abreast of national guidance and contribute locally to service audit. Offer oversight and assurance of our agreed governance framework. Provide quality assurance through the therapy service standards audit. Provide safety assurance through the competency framework. Provide clinical supervision to physiotherapy staff ensuring best practice is shared. Contribute to Quality Improvement projects within surgical services. Work closely with the MDT to ensure the patient experience is optimised. Work closely with the team manager, other clinical leads in the team and senior AHP manager to ensure excellent communication is observed.

You will have access to peer clinical supervision from specialists within and external to the Trust as well as professional support from the physiotherapy professional lead. There will be access to training opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge in this specialist area. You will be encouraged to network locally and nationally as a source of development and support.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

Degree in Physiotherapy HCPC registered Physiotherapist Evidence of relevant structured CPD activities Post graduate qualification (such as Masters level modules or clinically specific training) relevant to role and clinical specialty. Evidence of significant highly specialist post graduate training within designated area

Desirable criteria

Masters level Qualification (Level7)within relevant area of practice (may include research or evidence-based practice.) Evidence of progression through career pathway or framework Leadership Qualification Membership of and contribution to relevant professional Specialist Interest Group SIG

Experience and Knowledge Required

Essential criteria

Experience in specialist role, including the management of a range of specialist conditions, with substantial evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision Evidence of ability to lead and act as an authority on the management of complex clinical presentations in specialist area Substantial experience of assessment and provision of specialist equipment Significant experience of delivering highly specialist clinical treatment within relevant area Leadership of relevant audit and service improvement work. In-depth understanding of current issues in health care Standards of Professional Practice Able to demonstrate application of theoretical learning to clinical practice within a wide range of clinically complex situations Knowledge and understanding of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Professional standards for practice, conduct and ethics

Desirable criteria

Highly experienced in the identification and use of outcome measures to evaluate clinical treatment Highly developed specialist clinical skills within relevant area Significant experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area Evidence of having led the delivery of relevant research projects
