At our ARU Writtle campus, we specialise in animal, environmental, agricultural and horticultural courses, for learners aged 16 to 18, adult learners, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

About the role:

Under the guidance of our Equine Resource Manager, we are looking for an individual to assist in the operation of our busy Equine Resource Unit, with a specific focus on horse care and maintaining our top-class facilities.

You will be confident around horses, as you will work closely with the senior yard staff to ensure the highest standards of Equine Care for our horses in accordance with the BHS standard. On a day-to-day basis, you will carry out all general stable duties such as mucking out, feeding, grooming and preparing horses for student learning practical sessions. The role will also involve maintaining fencing and grazing land using agricultural machinery and general maintenance tasks including weeding, tidying and mowing. 

With either a range of GCSEs at A-C grade or equivalent or vocational qualification at NVQ Level 2 or equivalent required. Good communication skills and a team player attitude are essential along with the ability to work on your own initiative without close supervision. Due to the nature of the role, you will need to be in possession of a full driving licence, with the ability to drive non-HGV horseboxes (the ability to drive tractors and trailers is desirable but not essential).
