Specialist Nurse Apheresis
Found in: Talent UK C2 - 1 week ago
Would you like to be part of an expert team delivering lifesaving and life-enhancing treatments where every day is different?
Would you like to work in a capacity where you can provide holistic and compassionate care to your patients on a 1:1 basis?
Job Summary
Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) is the only patient facing service provided by NHS Blood and Transplant and is highly regarded within the organization as a flagship service. There are currently eight TAS units/regions throughout England.
It goes without saying that no two days are the same for nurses working within TAS. You will have the opportunity to provide a variation of different lifesaving and life enhancing treatments to patients on a 1:1 basis. Many of our treatments are provided by the team within a designated TAS unit but there will also be a requirement to work independently and provide outreach services within the host trust and off site at various hospitals.
In addition to working for a unique, national NHS Employer, we will provide you with an extensive residential induction and ongoing development program specific to this role to support you in achieving your career ambitions.
Because our Therapeutic Apheresis Units are based within large NHS Trust our nurses benefit from the infrastructure and facilities of NHS Blood and Transplant and the host Trust.
Main duties of the job
As a Specialist Nurse, you will work closely with the Lead Nurse to provide clinical care for patients and donors. You will work within a supportive team and will take ownership of providing one-to-one care to our patients. You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership, management, and clinical skills. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out therapeutic apheresis procedures using a variety of cutting-edge technology.
- Working alongside your team to provide a high-quality, compassionate, and effective care to our patients and donors.
- Participating in and leading international studies, local audits, and research projects to drive improvement in clinical practice.
- Providing expert and compassionate apheresis treatments to patients within our Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) Unit and on an outreach basis for neighbouring hospitals.
- Deputising for the Lead Nurse when required to provide day to day leadership for the unit.
- Participating in a 24 hour on-call rota, providing emergency treatments out of hours within your region.
