Tullow is in the process of updating standards and procedures alongside supporting organisational change to operationalise the social management framework.

Tullow Oil has an exciting opportunity for a Social Impact Manager . Reporting to the Group Shared Prosperity Manager, the post-holder will be responsible for supporting embedding and assuring the implementation of social performance and human rights standards across Tullow operations, with a specific focus on.

Social Management Framework implementation - integrating and embedding practical human rights and social impact management across the business from internal decision -making processes to Group level human rights and social monitoring and evaluation; Leading social and human rights management - planning and implementation for assets and projects with no in-situ social team; and, Social and human rights advice and assurance - of site based social performance teams’.

In fulfilling the above, the position will play a role in furthering Tullow’s reputation as a socially responsible operator.

This is a permanent role based in Chiswick, London with hybrid working arrangements.

Responsibilities/Key Objectives

Responsibilities include:

Social Performance (SP) & Human Rights (HR) Management :

Group

Drive the adoption and implementation of the agreed Group Social Management framework and standards including human rights to ensure effective and timely management of social and human rights impacts and risks in Tullow’s operations. Work closely with the Environment Manager(s) and other functional managers to ensure an integrated approach to the management of social and socio-economic impacts, mitigation, and risks as part of an environmental and social impacts assessment (ESIA) and management process. Liaise with relevant functions (HR, E&C, Legal, HSSE, Security and the Human Rights Working Group) to ensure human rights salient risk action plans are tracked and appropriately managed. Ensure HR impact management is embedded in Tullow’s Contractor Management processes. Work closely with Supply Chain in the definition of the human rights due diligence processes, develop and deliver training/toolkit in the roll out of the Group ‘Contractor SP/HR Management’ project. Provide social and human rights impact data and communications inputs to support the development of appropriate shared prosperity communication. Support training and development requirements of Tullow staff on human rights & social performance in accordance with agreed development plans.

BU/ Site support

Ensure human rights issues are integrated in existing environmental and social impacts assessment processes. Extract human rights issues and dimensions from assessment processes for communication to BU management and separate reporting purposes. Support BUs in the development of implementation strategies and engagement plans for Human Rights/VPSHRs and determine the most effective communication tools, messages and appropriate timing and delivery for different influencer groups. Support Group social and human rights assurance process, including ESMP audits, ensuring quality of the required social and human rights management plans and their execution in accordance with the requirements of the Tullow’s policies and Standards And any other specific project requirements.

Social Investment (SI)

Group

Manage SI portfolio (discretionary, impact management and mandatory), including overseeing partners, budget administration, M&E, and reporting (internal / external).

BU/ Site support

Support selection and definition of SI projects (discretionary) by applying selection criteria, defining delivery mechanisms (including negotiating partnerships and selecting SI contractors), budgeting (including leveraging 3rd party funding), M&E and exit strategies. Develop metrics, targets, and indicators for measuring impact of SI projects, in terms of development outcomes and return on investment. Facilitate participatory planning and monitoring of SI projects.

Education and Experience

University Degree (preferably in the humanities, social sciences, anthropology) (minimum). Postgraduate qualifications in social sciences / community relations preferred. Experience working within the oil and gas or similar industry within developing countries. Experience in rolling out policies, standards and delivering training. Ability to develop and implement strategies (including key stakeholder engagement) to secure desired outcomes and support objectives. Experience in the management and assurance processes of ESIAs and ESMPs. Experience in the use and application of international standards, requirements, tools, and guidelines on human rights in the extractive industries specifically in relation to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Experience in the application of the IFC Environmental and Social Performance Standards and other international principles and best practice related to social performance in the extractive industry (WB ESS, Equator principles, ICMM/IPIECA etc.). Previous experience in external representation of the company, including industry associations, international forums, NGOs, think tanks, etc.

Skills

Strong track record in building successful relationships and securing alignment between multiple stakeholders. Ability to translate complex information into strong, easily delivered messages, including the ability to influence, inspire confidence and build trust at all levels. Strong project management skills and ability to integrate consultation outcomes into business and project planning as required. Strong organisational skills, including an ability to manage multiple projects, events, and campaigns. Proven ability to manage complex matters in a transparent and inclusive fashion. Demonstrated ability to produce effective frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure timely access and minimize associated impacts. Ability to manage external consultants / advisors (as appropriate) to support key deliverables and build capacity. Able to work on own initiative as well as effectively as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
