Job summary

Surrey Downs Health & Care

The Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service is made up of Neuropsychology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Dietetics and specialist nurses . The team has several roles; it provides co-ordination of the rehabilitation pathway for people with complex acquired neurological conditions ( traumatic brain injury, stroke), making the best use of secondary, tertiary and community services to optimise the effectiveness of treatment from acute event to discharge. It provides rehabilitation for a small number of inpatient neuro-rehab beds, an early supported discharge service and community rehabilitation.Minimum requirements for recruitment include: an upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology with entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society; an understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with acquired brain injuries and related neurological diagnoses, based on experience of working with people with these conditions; some experience of cognitive/neuropsychological assessment under supervision; and an understanding of psychology applied to healthcare with the ability to apply this existing knowledge to practical hold a UK valid driving licence and have use of a car for role has safeguarding responsibilities and requires an Enhanced DBS disclosure.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an energetic and organised Assistant Psychologist who will be required to:o Support and enhance the provisions of a clinical psychology and neuro rehabilitation service to clients with acquired neurological disorders and their carers, working as a member of the multi-therapy team in both inpatient and community Provide psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the clinical supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. Must plan and organise own Assist in clinically-related administration tasks, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, and undertaking some teaching.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology Eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society Evidence of short specialist courses to enhance understanding of clinical practice

Desirable

First class honours degree Further post graduate training in relevant areas of psychology, and/or research and design and analysis Neuropsychology/neuroscience component to degree

Knowledge

Essential

Experience of administering cognitive/neuropsychological tests and measures

Desirable

Experience of working with people with neurological conditions in a rehabilitation setting Work with health professionals Psychologist, Occupational Therapist Working in a multi-disciplinary team Familiarity with administering a broad range of cognitive and other psychological tests used within clinical practice, and their implications for rehabilitation

Essential
