We are seeking a talented Platform Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This team is responsible for architecting the underlying infrastructure that supports our SaaS offering to our customers, internal stakeholders and building the automation that will deploy and configure it. Working with a team of senior engineers, you will bring your experience and technical ability to bear on a wide range of technical challenges to help the business achieve its goals at pace. If you are driven to solve problems, reduce inefficiency, and improve usability through automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions, this is an ideal role for you. Key Responsibilities
  • You will be hands-on technical, directly engaging with and developing the necessary systems and tools
  • Establish strong working relationships across different business units
  • You will take requirements from, and build services for, other teams and customers
  • Work closely with the Cloud Operations team
  • Collaborate to deploy and maintain infrastructure
  • Use automation frameworks you and the rest of the Platform Engineering team have built
  • Experience with Azure is essential for this role
  • Opportunity to evaluate, suggest, and work with new tools as the team matures
  • Your time will be mostly dedicated to development work
  • Focus on refining and extending automation
  • Develop other tooling and services to deploy and maintain customer platforms
  • Exploration of new tooling where necessary to enhance productivity
  • Documenting the work developed to ensure proper knowledge transfer and maintenance
Key tools you will work with daily include:
  • Terraform for infrastructure as code
  • Azure DevOps for CI/CD and other development operations
  • Git for version control
The successful candidate must be able to travel regularly to either our Glasgow Office - G1 1RE, or our Edinburgh Office, EH12 5HD.
Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential: 
  • Understanding of common networking concepts (VNETs, subnets, DNS, WAF, etc.)
Cloud hosting models:
  • Infrastructure-as-a-Service (e.g. Windows VM-based) 
  • Platform-as-a-Service (Azure App Service, Azure SQL) 
Languages:
  • Terraform
  • Azure DevOps Pipelines (YAML) 
  • PowerShell 
Tooling:
  • Azure DevOps 
  • Terraform Cloud 
Version control:
  • Git
Operating Systems:
  • Windows
  • Linux  
Desirable:
  • Exposure to Security tooling (SIEM) 
  • Understanding of software development principles (particularly, Agile)
  • Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Config-as-Code
  • Understanding of virtualisation, containerisation, & container orchestration
  • Understanding of highly available, resilient architectures
Languages:
