The Acute Medical Unit are looking to recruit three band 6 nurses. We are looking for existing band 6s or band 5s that are ready to be developed into this role.

We are a dynamic well led 73 bedded unit, 10 of those beds allocated to patients requiring higher observation. (HOBS)

Main duties of the job

We require enthusiastic individuals with a can do attitude that have the ability to work within our friendly units and teams. You must be as passionate as we are in getting things right first time every time, Commitment to undertake ongoing in-service training and development is essential.

Candidates must have the initiative to adapt to the changing demands of the service and be able to contribute to the development of service provision. They will need to be experienced in mentoring student nurses, holding a relevant mentorship and/or teaching qualification and be supportive of junior members of the team, and have relevant experience at Band 5 enabling them to be confident to lead the team in a shift co-ordinator role. Ability to cover the department and provide reasonable flexibility in terms of hours worked, including varying shift patterns across days and nights will be expected.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To deliver SAFE, PERSONAL and EFFECTIVE patient care on a daily basis. You should be an expert in all areas of nursing care from patient’s admission to discharge, which facilitates clinical practice development. You will actively support the ward/unit manager, ensuring the effective
running of the unit in their absence. You will provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff in the delivery of evidence based patient centred care.

This will be of a high standard. You are responsible for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures. Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources.

The focus for the post holder will be in the following key areas:

· Support the provision of a clean environment

· Ensuring improvements in patient outcomes and the safety, effectiveness and experience of their care

· Assist in the developing of nurse leadership, improvement, and management of services within the escalation ward area in order to ensure the highest standards of patient care and service are delivered in the most efficient and effective way.

· Treating patients with dignity and respect

· Assist the ward manager in the provision of senior nurse leadership during both regular and unsocial hours

· Assist the ward manager in ensuring all quality improvement work is implemented and sustained.

· Ensure safe and effective discharge planning.

· Supporting the delivery of the Nursing Strategy at all times.

· Be a confident role model for the junior nursing team

Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registration essential
  • Able to deliver a high standard of Evidence based individual patient care
  • Delivers nursing care in line with Trust policies and protocols
  • Effective communicator with good leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of ability to take charge in the absence of their direct line manager
Desirable criteria
  • Computer literacy
  • Post basic qualification in specialty
Experience, Knowledge & Skills Essential criteria
  • Degree level studies or equivalent portfolio of evidence
  • Demonstrates specialist knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices
  • Evidence of professional expertise acquired through CPD
  • Evidence of clinical expertise and knowledge acquired through CPD and experience
  • Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners
  • Evidence of involvement in the development of protocols and clinical audit
  • Effective communicator with good leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners
  • Evidence of leadership and team player
  • Evidence of involvement in policy and practice changes arising from audit
