Assistant Technical Co-ordinator (Chemist)

Salary – Circa £28,404 per annum (plus benefits)

Hours – 45 hours per week, office cover may be 7.00am to 4.00pm, 8.00am to 5.00pm or 8.30am to 5.30pm.

As an Assistant Technical Co-ordinator, you will assess chemical waste enquiries to identify whether it is suitable for acceptance, identify appropriate safe handling requirements and prepare quotations for treatment, transfer or disposal along with managing associated documentation and record keeping.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week Monday to Friday. However, we will consider requests for job shares to suit your lifestyle (working full days).

What will you be doing?

- Working in the Waste Treatment Division (WTD) Technical Team carrying out technical assessments of hazardous/chemical waste enquiries, preparation of consignment notes and transportation documentation for chemical wastes, collating data for site records and the preparation of data for invoicing.
- Ensuring that technical control activities of the sales enquiry process are carried out and conform to legal requirements and good practice.
- Accurately interpreting waste data and chemical analysis to determine composition and identify safe handling requirements, disposal requirements and correct classification.
- Gathering technical information from waste producers and customers to make valid judgements on waste chemical composition and our ability to accept and process the material safely and profitably.
- Negotiating disposal prices with customers to meet business plans.
- Ensuring that the technical assessments of sales enquiries are accurate and timely.
- Liaising with laboratory staff to discuss analytical results and process routes.
- Dealing with technical queries from chemical waste producers and the sales team.
- Ensuring that the production of invoices and other data to monitor sales progress is accurate and timely.

What are we looking for?

- At a minimum, a HND in Chemistry or related subject.
- Hazardous Waste treatment industry or chemical industry experience would be beneficial to your application.
- Be able to problem-solve using your own initiative and make use of chemical hazard and properties information to determine the safe handling and disposal methods for chemicals.
- Be able to work both as part of a small team under supervision and work alone, including self-managing the workload.
