Job summary

A recent investment of £ within the Respiratory service at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust has allowed us to expand our services, including the Pleural service. This advanced clinical practitioner role will be working alongside the pleural clinical team and deliver a high standard of outpatient services. This role will involve collaboration with community and acute services and development of the Medical Thoracoscopy service at WHT.

The Pleural service currently consists of 2 Pleural Consultants and 1 Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist. Expansion of this team will enable enhanced delivery of this service incorporating virtual, outpatient and inpatient care.

The successful candidate will be motivated, able to provide decisive and effective clinical input, and demonstrate a high level of communication skills and a flexible approach when working under pressure. We welcome candidates working towards ACP qualification, as further training and mentoring will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Main Responsibilities Provide advanced and comprehensive assessment based on a specialist body of knowledge under responsibility for managing patients within own caseload and supervising junior multidisciplinary team be able to deliver a Pleural service acting independently and autonomously for Pleural outpatient clinics and procedures. Training with the clinical body and mentoring will be appropriately assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat patients, resulting in the safe management of pleural procedures and appropriate referral or discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations within the boundaries of the role as an contribute to developing and improving systems and processes that facilitate patient flow.Maintain clinical development by keeping abreast of new treatments and technologies within the Respiratory rigorously review all aspects of the patient's care plan and identify and address issues that may result in a sub-standard supervision, practice with confidence and competence within professional guidelines ( NMC, HCPC).To ensure that accurate documentation and patient care records are assist in developing assessment systems, processes and tools across clinical and assessment areas.Actively implement effective systems and processes for infection control management and relevant audit within their clinical area.

About us

The post holder will be practising as an advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) within the Respiratory service to provide patient-centred quality care. This role will have a focus on the pleural service pathway. This will include management of the Pleural service which will encompass the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice. The post holder will assist in the safe treatment, referral and discharge of patients from the Respiratory pleural and Acute services.

Systematically assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat all types ofpatients with pleural disease accessing the service with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations.

Be clinically competent and able to manage any pleural disease patients,alongside common medical conditions.

The post holder will have a masters degree (or working towards) in advanced clinical practice and will have or be willing to work through the RCPcredentialing process.

Communicate effectively with patients, family and the multidisciplinary team.

Ensure that documentation is accurate, contemporaneous and maintained at all times in line with the Trust Documentation Policy. Any medical recordsmade during the patient encounter should be accessible following discharge.

To rigorously and continuously review all aspects of the patients care plan andidentify and address issues affecting the quality of care provided.

To act as a role model for all junior clinicians regarding clinical attributes andinterpersonal skills.

To demonstrate a working knowledge of departmental integrated carepathways and contribute to developing new clinical and departmentalguidelines.

To safely prescribe effectively as a non-medical prescriber following Trustguidelines and within the individuals scope of professional competence.

To be a conscientious, confident and competent practitioner who works within their own scope of professional practice. To ensure all clinical practices adheres to departmental, Trust and professional body guidelines (NMC / HPC).

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

Registered Nurse or HCPC Registered Health Care Professional. Evidence of completed ACP MSc or portfolio of practice accredited by HEE. Non-medical Prescribing. Advanced Life Support Qualification

Desirable

Teaching and assessing qualification/ mentor qualification. ALS USS qualification

EXPERIENCE

Essential

Minimum of 5 years post registration experience in Acute Medical or Respiratory care setting.

Desirable

Management and leadership of trainee ACPs Experience in mentorship, supervision, and teaching. Knowledge of audit process and procedures Honorary lectureship at Higher Educational Institution
