What does the job involve?

The CNC machine centre programmer operator and manual machinist converts raw materials (Titanium, Stainless steel, and nickel alloy) and purchased parts into saleable manufactured products, using production tooling and machinery and in accordance with relevant engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions.

Use available software to program CNC equipment for the purpose of machining/drilling product, check for compliance and edit accordingly, produce most efficient cycle for material and performance. Use manual lathes to machine components/ tooling to the required dimensions stated on the engineering drawings. Select tools, check condition and set up in accordance with job card and/or work instructions, reporting any defective, broken or excessively worn tooling to the Team Leader. Ensure that all tooling is correctly and safely stored and located after use. Maintain production machinery and tooling in accordance with any required operator preventive maintenance instructions or schedules, recording as required the maintenance activities undertaken. Read, interpret and understand engineering drawings and associated shop packet paperwork (Job Card, Kitting Lists and Work Instructions) in order to determine how products are to be correctly manufactured. Visually check the part prior to starting work to ensure it meets the standards required. During each Job Card operation, check the quality of your work and confirm that it conforms to the requirements by recording & stamping the operation complete with any required measurements. Ensure that any measuring or production equipment used (and requiring calibration) is within its re-calibration date prior to use, reporting any expired items to the Team  Utilise tools and machinery in safe manner and in accordance with all safety instructions and previous training provided. Ensure that any required guarding is suitably in place and positioned. Immediately suspend use of, and report, any defective or unsafe tools, machinery, guarding or stopping devices to the Team Leader and HSE Officer. Ensure that the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) is used for the operations being performed and ensure that PPE is appropriately stored or replaced as necessary.

  What key skills, experience and qualifications do I need?

Essential 

CNC Machining & Programming of Okuma machines. Time served manual machinist. Experience of operating milling machines. Experience of working with manufacturing jigs and assembly aids. Experienced in working within an engineering environment. Experienced in using production tooling and machinery.

Desirable

Experience of tooling manufacturing. Experience of using a Okuma Genos LM

Qualifications & Training 

Essential

CNC Programming related training 

Desirable 

NVQ Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship 

Job related skills and abilities 

Essential

Ability to inspect work to both company and customer standards. Ability to accurately measure using equipment such as a Vernier callipers and Pi Tapes. Ability to read and work from engineering drawings. Ability to follow “job cards”/ work instructions.

Desirable

NVQ Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship.
