JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Humanities and Arts Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute is seeking part-time adjunct faculty to teach sections of Global Islam. Philosophy and Religion faculty teach introductory courses, intermediate thematic surveys, and advanced topic seminars. WPI’s PY-RE program has particular strengths in social justice and environmental philosophy; underrepresented philosophical and religious traditions including feminism, critical race theory, and non-Western worldviews; and studies of science, technology, and ethics.

JOB DESCRIPTION

WPI has an immediate need for adjunct faculty who could teach a course on Global Islam in Winter 2025 from January 15 to March 7, 2025. We are especially interested in candidates who consider Islam globally from philosophical, doctrinal and/or interdisciplinary perspectives while attending to the social, cultural and political contexts in which it developed and its myriad manifestations across those contexts. All adjunct applicants should also have the capacity to teach our core introductory course, Introduction to Philosophy and Religion.

We are looking for outstanding scholars, but successful candidates must also demonstrate teaching excellence and versatility as well as an ability to jump into an existing curriculum with creative and critical pedagogical approaches. Ideally, the successful candidate will hold a PhD in Philosophy or Religion; however, doctoral students who are ABD are also encouraged to apply.
