Job summary

We are delighted to offer this opportunity to join our team of paediatric emergency physicians at Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales (UHW). These posts are aimed at middle grade doctors in Emergency Medicine or paediatrics with an interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

The post is available from 7th August 2024 for 12 months.

Appointees can have up to 30% of their time devoted to one or more of the above activities which will be facilitated through links with the EMAC at Cardiff University with use of an office based in the university

Appointees will have 70% of their time allocated to clinical duties in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. They will participate in the out-of-hours rota, which attracts a banding supplement of 1A. Applicants wishing to work less than full time are welcomed.

Main duties of the job

You will provide a service in the speciality to the hospitals so designated, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of accidents and acute emergencies.

You will have responsibility for the care of patients in your charge and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Department's Operational Policy.

You will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.

You will be responsible for undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department in the UHB.

Excellent opportunities are available to pursue research, both those currently being undertaken in the Department and those of interest to the individual.

MBBS or equivalent Life Support provider status on ALS, APLS or ATLS/ETC Paediatric Life Support provider status on PILS, APLS or EPLS

MCEM Intercalated Degree Academic Excellence Instructor status in Life support Courses

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential

12 months experience of working in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or Emergency Medicine in the UK as a middle grade ( able to lead a department at night with remote supervision). 4 years of post graduate experience in specialities relevant to emergency medicine

Desirable

Some experience in paediatrics, intensive care, anaesthesia, acute medicine.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE , ABILITIES

Essential

Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical and legal topics with patients and colleagues Special interest or previous experience in medicolegal medicine. Evidence of recent quality improvement projects or audit.
