Job summary

The Pharmacy at St Peter's Hospital have an exciting opportunity for a friendly and well organised individual to join our department as a Pharmacy Porter.

We are a busy Pharmacy department and your role will involve you supporting the Pharmacy team by delivering essential medicines to the wards, clinics and outpatient areas. You will be working alongside another Pharmacy porter on a shift basis to cover the Pharmacy opening hours of 08:30 to 18:30, Monday to Friday.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills to be able to effectively work alongside staff of all grades throughout the Hospital. You will be hard working and keen to learn and have the ability to prioritise work.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the busy Pharmacy team, you will be responsible for the safe delivery of medicines throughout the hospital site which will include the supply of temperature controlled items and controlled drugs. You will assist the Pharmacy Distribution team with collation of bulk fluid orders and requesting the relevant checks before supplying these to the end users.

You will be a point of contact for Pharmacy as you complete the Pharmacy Porter's rounds to the wards and clinics and will therefore be required to work with clinical and non-clinical staff throughout the hospital.

You will work with the Pharmacy team to assist with the return of unused and expired medicines to the pharmacy in a secure and safe manner.

You will be required to follow all legal and departmental practices including Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) as well as COSHH and lifting and handling regulations and all Trust Policies and Procedures.

Job responsibilities

The successful applicant will have numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to GSCE level. It is important to have the ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions. There is a need to be physically fit to undertake manual handling tasks.

The Pharmacy core opening hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30. To enable the department to provide the best service to our users the successful candidate will need to be able to work on a shift pattern alternating between 08:30 17:00 and 10:00 18:30 on a weekly basis. There is a requirement to participate in the department bank holiday rota.
