Duties & Responsibilities:

As the Relief Milker you will:

  1.  Always carry out your duties to the highest standards of cleanliness and animal welfare.
  2. To carry out morning and/or afternoon milking of cows and associated animal husbandry.
  3. To deliver milk to our onsite creamery.
  4. To assist cows when calving and treat any ailments on the days you work, ensuring all animals receive the highest welfare standards at all times. 
  5. To call the A.I. as directed for any cows requiring serving on the days you milk and recording this in the diary.
  6. To scrape the yard twice daily when the herd is house inside.
  7. To bring the herd in for milking on both mornings and afternoons during the months housed inside. This is to be done in a safe manner ensuring the safety of the cows and general public during the times we are open, making sure all necessary gates are shut and wires/string in place to enable the cows to come in safely and the public are kept away from the cows.
  8. To undertake any other tasks, duties or projects which may arise from time to time, which are commensurate with the general level of this post and as directed by the designated line manager.
  9. To always follow the Camphill Village Trust health and safety policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Previous experience in milking is essential.
  • You will have a full, valid, UK driving license (trailer BE is desirable).
  • You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the animal welfare requirements as required un the animal welfare regulations and specially in compliance with organic production.
