Overview of the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join the Excavator Engineering product team responsible for Large Tracked Excavators and play a key role in designing our future product range with the opportunity to work on the complete machine. We are passionate about our products and strive to continually evolve and innovate.

Your Responsibilities as a Design Engineer:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will join a highly focused, passionate team, working on exciting new programmes to both maintain and further extend JCB’s Tracked Excavator range of machines; your main duties would include:

• Have ownership and responsibility for areas of the machine liaising with multi-disciplined teams and driving change forward

• Understand the application of Tracked Excavators and the customer requirements

• Reviewing the sales and Marketing requirements documents and being part of the team translating this into a design brief with performance deliverables

• Defining the machine BOM

• Supervision of development machine builds

• Diagnosing machine technical issues and work with different teams to solve problems

• Problem analysis and proposal of design solutions

• Analysis, reporting and presentation of designs and calculations

• Liaise with internal / external customers / departments, as required during projects.

• Product homologation and legislative conformance

• Provide information for Engineering Sign-Off records, DVPSOR’s and Technical Construction Files.

• Supervision of XP resource allocated to assist with development tasks and support prototype builds.

About you:

• Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or have equivalent industry experience.

• Experience in the design and development of Off-Highway vehicles (ideally Excavators).

• Good working knowledge of drivetrain, hydraulics and electrical / electronic systems.

• Enthusiastic attitude, coupled with a sense of urgency and desire to succeed.

• Good teamwork and communication skills with ability to influence change.

• Good working knowledge of 3D CAD systems – preferably NX

• Good working knowledge of Team Centre

• Strong Microsoft Office skills
