Applicants who do not meet the essential criteria will be considered under the Annex 21 training programme where whilst undergoing training they will be paid 70% of the top of Band 6 (£32,270.00) and on completion of training will then move on to Band 6 scale.

The Role

Process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Haematology/Blood Transfusion using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples.

Provides advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time-scales.

Responsible for own work and uses specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems.

Acts as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participates in training /supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.

What we'll need you to bring

State HCPC registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory. BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for Health Professions Council registration. Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures. Evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice.

It would be great if you also have

Specialist Diploma in either Haematology/ Blood Transfusion/Blood Science or evidence to demonstrate working towards completion Licentiate of the Institute of Biomedical Science Previous experience of working as a biomedical scientist in an NHS clinical laboratory environment Team worker Good communication skills Good organisational skills Participate in out of hours service Undertake some back shifts at other hospital sites when required

22.3 hours

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.. 

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Haematology Department, within University Hospital Hairmyres. 

The working pattern for this role will be Rotational shifts 5/7.
