NATURE &SCOPE
The position is within the mass spectrometry teamwithin the Biological Characterisation Product Development Sciencesdepartment. The team focus incorporates comprehensive detailedcharacterisation of proteins to elucidate their structure functionand degradation pathways as well as understanding proteinproduction processes. This is achieved using mass spectrometrybased methods such as peptide mapping intact mass multipleattribute methods hostcell protein analysis ion mobility hydrogendeuterium exchange. A wide range of instrumentation is availableincluding Thermo QExactives and Exploris Waters Synapt Waters HDXBruker TIMS TOF.

This is an idealopportunity for an enthusiastic scientist to develop their massspectrometry skills and experience in the biopharmaceutical sector.It will also provide the opportunity to seek out develop andimplement new assays to support the development of novel proteintherapeutics and to publish the work where appropriate.

There will be opportunities to tackle complexscientific problems communicate technical analytical issues andresults to other group members and project teams and to learn aboutindustrial and regulatory guidelines.

Thegroup collaborates with teams and projects across sites in the UKBelgium Switzerland and the US and with academia. As the groupworks closely with all departments within candidate development thework should be performed to a high standard and good scientificpractices.

You must have a genuineenthusiasm for scientific research good communication skills andthe ability to work effectively in a team.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lab basedwork
Perform analysis of protein therapeutics using massspectrometric techniques
Tackle scientificproblems
Keep accurate records and contribute toauthorship of analytical aspects of regulatory submissionstechnical procedures protocols and reports
Researchspecific analytical protocols (literature) and keep aware of latestanalytical techniques
Assay and instrumenttroubleshooting
Ensure lab equipment is properlymaintained and functioning properly; initiate appropriate repairand maintenance
Ensure appropriate lab material andconsumables availability

StudyDesign
Lead experimental design and interpretation ofresults
Utilise a range of mass spectrometrytechnologies
Interpret results draw conclusions and makerecommendations
Ensure data is captured appropriately insubmission ready reports

Requirements

Experience
PhD or several years laboratory experience or equivalent inacademic or industrial setting using mass spectrometry
Specific skills (Include specific skills and knowledge necessary tomeet the objectives of the position)
