Perinatal Volunteer Counsellor

Our Counselling East team are looking for experienced volunteer counsellors (qualified or in training) to join our Perinatal service.
CrossReach Perinatal Service offers support to parents and families expecting a child, or whose youngest child is under the age of three. Our trained counsellors and therapists are experienced, compassionate and offer support without judgement. We offer support to those experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma or any other difficulties before or after having a baby. We understand that the support we provide needs to be specific to the needs of each client, so we offer a range of tailored support including Individual counselling; Group counselling and Perinatal therapy specific to new and expectant parents. Our volunteers deliver support from our Edinburgh city centre premises as well as remotely by phone and video calls between 9AM – 5PM, Monday to Thursday.
This volunteering opportunity is an ideal role for a counsellor who would like to gain further experience working in the field of Perinatal care.
Volunteer applicants should be either fully qualified or working towards their diploma / post graduate diploma, having already completed a minimum of 80-100 clinical hours. It is desirable that applicants have some Perinatal knowledge, as well as relevant life experience.
The clinical team are particularly keen to hear from applicants who have availability to volunteer on Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.
Role & requirements
to deliver counselling/therapy and keep client notes up-to-date No. of clients will be discussed at interview, but we hope that volunteers would be willing to see a minimum of 2 clients a week We hope that volunteers will stay with us for one year or longer, post training and induction Undertake induction training and play an active part in monthly in-house peer reflective practice Attend external individual supervision Be a member of a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP; COSCA, HCPC) We seek an openness and respect towards CrossReach’s Christian EthosWhat you can expect from us
