Job summary

The Physician Associate role is now its its second year at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, & we are excited to continue this journey and appoint another qualified physician associates to work in the Medicine Division. This includes Acute Medicine/ Emergency Medicine & General Medicine.

Applicants will be required to register on the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA) Managed Voluntary Register (FPMVR) before commencement of employment.

Additionally, they must hold, or will do so on completion, a PG Diploma in Physician Associate Studies from a recognised University & have passed the UK Physician Associate National Exam, or equivalent for internationally trained applicants.

Physician Associates (PAs) are a new but important part of the team. They work alongside the Consultants, junior doctors & be supported by ENPs, ACPs, nursing staff, Clinical Matrons & the Operational Service Manager. It is expected that they will be a valued and integral part of the team. There will be always Consultant and/or registrar support and supervision.

We have enjoyed hosting PA students and welcoming our first group of qualified PA's over the last three years & look forward to welcoming another to the team. PAs will be encouraged to take part in audits & research & be expected to attend regular departmental teaching. You will become a key member of a team delivering high quality care, directly involved in improving patient experience and ensuring patient flow.

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will undergo an induction programme and be supported and mentored in the development of their clinical practice. They will be allocated a consultant educational supervisor to support them to develop a professional portfolio and will be offered CPD, study leave support, and teaching time. In addition to working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, they will have the opportunity to become involved in audit/research, teaching and simulation training.

The successful applicants will work on the junior medical rota in the relevant department.

This role is open to both newly qualified & experienced Physician Associates.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

Member of Faculty of Physician Associates which includes registration with the UK Managed Voluntary Registry Relevant first BA/BSC degree prior to undertaking PA programme Post graduate Diploma in Physician Associate studies from UK training programme or equivalent Current certification of Physician Associate National Exam or National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Desirable

Additional clinical qualification and registration - Nurse, radiographers etc. that would allow study for Non-Medical Prescribing

Knowledge and skills

Essential
