Job summary

We are looking for a keen, friendly, enthusiastic Technician to join our pharmacy team at Yeovil District Hospital.

This post will involve rotating between Dispensary, Ward services and Aseptics.

Main duties of the job

Job role: Participate in day to day routine activities of dispensary, leading the team and working towards accreditations including ACPT and/or Medicines Optimisation

Job responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Dispensary

Dispense in-patient supplies and discharge medication to the Yeovil District Hospital Wards

Dispense the supply of medication for all commercial contracts

Dispense and supply St Margarets Hospice in Taunton

Dispense clozapine and be familiar with the associated dispensing websites

Deal with clozapine related queries

Out-patient dispensing

Managing the out of stock medicines in a timely manner and liaising with procurement to ensure consistent and efficient supply

Assist with the dispensing of current clinical trials when requested

Understand and be able to process private sales to patients and outside agencies

Prioritise workload and organise staff appropriately to meet deadlines

Work alongside the experienced technicians and become familiar with how to manage the smooth workflow of the dispensary

Assist in the training of new dispensary assistants

Participate in the training of assistants, student technicians and post graduate pharmacists.

Ensure procedures relating to good dispensing practice are followed

Encourage and maintain high standards and orderly methods of working

Stock shelves with incoming goods ensuring good stock rotation

Be familiar with the online fridge database

Undertake routine stock checking of the dispensary

Answer the dispensary telephone and deal with ensuing queries

Log incoming prescription charts

Sort emails from commercial units and place in correct trays ready for clinical checking

Work towards, gain and maintain accreditation for final accuracy checking (ACPT)

Ward Services To participate in the regional Medicines Optimisation scheme and gain associated accreditations Once accredited join the team of technicians and pharmacists working on the wards to provide a full medicines management/medicines optimisation service which includes: Checking of Patients Own Drugs (PODs) Dispensing for Discharge One Stop dispensing In patient supply Patient counselling Discharge facilitation Medicines reconciliation Intervention reporting Weekend and Bank holiday working will be required on a rota basis Aseptics

1. To participate in routine manufacture of aseptically prepared products in the pharmacy aseptic unit

2. To maintain a clean and safe environment for the manufacture of aseptically prepared products

3. To participate in validation of manufacturing techniques and related processes

4. To work towards and qualify as a Pre and In-Process checking technician. This includes checking of ingredients, worksheets, labels, drug volumes and product integrity.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES

To participate in the training of technicians, support staff, students and ward staff

To participate in the induction of new staff

To be responsible for own GPhC registration and to ensure accreditation certification is achieved and maintained

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Btec/city and guilds or NVQ3 with Btec in pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent Registration with GPHC as a pharmacy Technician Previous dispensary experience relating to the dispensing of inpatient, outpatient, commercial, private, clinic prescriptions etc Effective verbal and written communication skills. Methodical with effective organisational skills in the workplace. Able to prioritise workload and meet deadlines. Able to demonstrate initiative. Able to demonstrate leadership skills. Computer literate including ability to use microsoft word, email and internet. Ability to work as part of a team
