Job Description

The Liverpool office has an established track record of successfully delivering road schemes and works closely with other disciplines from Bridges, Geotechnical, Environment, Transport Planning and Development Sectors. The team workload ranges from feasibility studies, preliminary / detail design and on-site management, working with mainly public sector clients.

We are currently looking for a Principal Engineer to support a variety of highway and traffic engineering projects. The role will suit a self-motivated individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in project delivery and manage dynamic teams delivering high quality projects mainly covering:

  • Optioneering, concept, preliminary and detail design associated with all aspects of highway improvement schemes
  • Contract preparation
  • Active travel design
  • Bus priority
  • Supporting OBC design
  • Traffic Regulation Order preparation
  • Site management opportunities

Job Responsibilities:

  • To be commercially aware and able to lead a team of 3-5 engineers and technicians, to programme workloads and successfully deliver projects to time, budget and quality
  • Provide wide ranging Highways and Traffic engineering design and project management expertise to delivery multi-disciplined schemes and manage small and medium work packages and projects
  • Interface with the Client as necessary to deliver the work
  • Experience in the preparation of contract drawings and specifications and writing contract documents and technical reports
  • Responsibility for managing the workloads and technical oversight of small team of junior engineers and technicians
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing the team
  • Being Project Manager for multiple projects while delivering on specific project outcomes in relation to time, budget and quality required
  • Reviewing of project deliverables before they are issued
  • Be part of a bidding team when required and contribute to work winning and to undertake business development to win new business 
  • To be able to produce and have knowledge in the design of highways, access roads and infrastructure of projects including the design of road geometry, earthworks, pavements, drainage and underground services

Current & Upcoming Projects:

A few examples include:

  • Continuing work with Liverpool City Council who we have been delivering projects for over the past 6 years. We are on the Liverpool City Council PSF and are currently working on The Strand Phase 2 and Anfield High Street.
  • Exciting long-term works lined up over the next 10 years with KMBC, covering a wide range of engineering principles and disciplines.
  • Working with WBC on their BSIP, delivering the construction package for the A49 project and various active travel schemes through their LUF.

Each team member has a development plan to provide a clear pathway to personal development and career progression. The team provides technical leadership of projects throughout the scheme lifecycle from optioneering, concept, preliminary and detailed stage designs. Our clients are many and varied from both the private and public sector and include the major custodians of the Liverpool City Region.

Qualifications

  • Significant highway / traffic engineering experience
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or similar
  • Chartered (or near chartered) Engineer and member of a professional Institution.
