Leven, United Kingdom Diageo Full time

Description

:

Business Leader

Leven, Scotland

Permanent

30th June 2024

Join us

As the home of iconic brands such as Baileys, Guinness, Smirnoff, and Johnnie Walker, at Diageo we source, produce and deliver 6.5 billion litres of world-leading products every year across 180 markets globally. Because of this huge undertaking, we rely on highly sophisticated systems as well as the very best talent to make sure our businesses continue to run efficiently.

About this role

As a Business Leader, you will provide outstanding leadership by delivering exceptional results and setting a clear strategic direction for your operational area. You will spend a significant amount of time engaging, motivating, and encouraging your team to achieve extraordinary performance. You will lead and advocate for good governance to ensure health, safety, environmental, quality, cost, and reliability standards are met.

You will embed a strong Tier 1 process, feeding into Tier 2, and empower the shift team to take accountability while supervising and optimising process operations. You will develop performance, standards, capabilities, and asset care to exceed balanced scorecard targets. In partnership with the Performance Improvement Leader, you will set and achieve the departmental deployment plan.

Crafting an inclusive and positive culture where people feel listened to, valued, and developed is key. You will mentor your team, providing guidance and support to direct reports and their teams to achieve department targets and deliver continuous improvement projects successfully. In a sophisticated and busy operational environment, you will handle daily complexities to deliver high-quality products safely and according to plan.

Key Accountabilities:

Uphold standards and own KPI targets across shifts, ensuring safety is the top priority. Ensure all team members follow standard operating procedures and participate in productive team meetings. Drive performance continuously, be bold in action planning and delivery. Strive to maintain a World Class site appearance and team mentality. Lead the risk profile within your business area and work with the governance team to address issues and opportunities. Take ownership of asset conditions in your area, working with the Engineering Centre to deliver the Asset Care plan. Handle people management activities including 1:1 meetings, performance and development management, absence management, ER case management, training, recruitment, succession planning, employee onboarding, and union engagement. Develop team morale, recognise great performance, and address underperformance promptly. Conduct permit writing and control of contractors with support from the Site Management Coordinator as needed, approve RAMs, and run your Business Unit cost code budget. React immediately to issues, own accident reports, and non-conforming product incidents, and correctly record and close incidents. Engage in Daily Operational Review meetings to discuss persistent performance issues.

About you

The ideal candidate will have demonstratable experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Manufacturing Excellence. Possession of the NEBOSH Health and Safety qualification is advantageous but not crucial for this role. Candidates without it must be willing to achieve this certification.

You should be a natural leader with demonstratable experience of leading hard-working teams and have experience in production management, preferably in a FMCG manufacturing environment.

Key competencies include the ability to lead team performance, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplined team, and build effective working relationships with partners while collaborating with other teams. You should possess proactive and structured problem-solving skills. Financial awareness, understanding of business drivers, and budgeting processes are desirable.

Experience within a Operational Management structure, including KPIs and tier review meetings, is crucial. You should have a proven track record of adhering to Core Processes and Standards, demonstrate role model behaviour, and coach others to follow consistent approaches that exceed mandatory requirements.
