Senior Occupational Therapist

We are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Occupational Therapist to contribute to our growing occupational therapy service.

The Social Care Occupational Therapy Service is provided for children with a range of physical and developmental disabilities in the community. The service aims to support children with permanent and substantial physical or learning disabilities, and their
families, to enhance the individual’s abilities and independence at home and to support parent/carers in managing the child’s daily activities.

The salary shown is the FTE and will be pro- rata as the role is part time only.

About the role

As a Senior Occupational Therapist for Achieving for Children, you will carry out comprehensive, specialist assessments and recommendations to solve practical problems encountered by children and young people with disabilities and their families within their home. This will enable them to remain safe and to retain/regain an appropriate level of independence. The post holder will also facilitate major and minor adaptations and supply of specialist equipment for use in the home environment.

You will be responsible for:

The provision of Occupational Therapy for children and young people 2-18 years with a permanent and substantial disability, within their home. To undertake assessments of children’s specialist equipment needs and prescribe equipment across Kingston and Richmond. To assess and recommend major adaptations in private housing, including preparing and facilitating DFG applications and to supervise all major adaptations to completion. To support the Social Care Team Lead to develop and maintain high quality Social Care Occupational Therapy services within the ISCD. To facilitate the provision of a high quality professional service and ensure compliance with the professional code of conduct and practice standards of the College of Occupational Therapists and fulfil obligations under the relevant legislation.

About you

The Senior Paediatric Occupational Therapist will be passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people as well as demonstrating the following points:

Experience of building strong partnerships, maintaining relationships and co- producing solutions to challenges across a diverse set of stakeholders, including children, young people and their families. Advocating the voices of those we are working with. Knowledge of statutory legislation (for example Children Act and Health and Safety at Work Act) and national policy drivers that will affect children’s services and your role. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills that are open, honest, persuasive and pragmatic, including excellent negotiation and influencing skills.

Important Information

Internal start dates:  Start dates will be agreed once all pre-transfer checks are completed. The usual transfer date will be in line with employees contracts unless agreement is reached between the existing and new line manager.

Pre-transfer checks: Internal moves are subject to satisfactory references being provided.
