Open Door is seeking a bilingual WIC Nutritionist for its Mount Kisco location. Under the direction and supervision of the WIC Program Site Coordinator, the WIC Nutritionist will provide nutrition education, as well as high-risk nutrition counseling to all participants.

Responsibilities:

Ensure the efficient flow of the nutrition assessment and education processes. Provide leadership in planning, conducting, and evaluating participant centered nutrition education (individual/ group facilitation). Conduct nutritional assessments, including: anthropometry, hematology, dietary, medical and health assessments.. Coordinate and cooperate with LA teams and other health care professionals to develop appropriate individualized nutrition care plans for at-risk and non-high risk participants. Identify high-risk participants, provide education and work with participants to develop SMART goals. Track and document follow-up towards all goals. Prescribe, tailor, issue and reissue food prescriptions for participants based on individual needs. Provide and document nutrition education for individual and group sessions. Assist in the development of the Nutrition Education component of the program. Provide clients with referrals to community services including, but not limited to: early childhood development, mental health, substance abuse programs, social services, and food pantries. Implement prenatal smoking cessation and substance abuse action plans. Responsible for documentation of nutrition services. Volunteer in other tasks related to nutrition education on an as-needed basis. Develop a full understanding of the rules and regulations of the WIC program’s guidelines at both the state and federal levels. Adhere to the requirements of Open Door Family Medical Center and have knowledge of the National Patient Safety Goals of the Joint Commission in order to have WIC staff prepared for any unannounced survey. Perform other duties as assigned and needed

Requirements:

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Nutrition from a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices; or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN). At least one year of experience in community nutrition strongly preferred. Experience with limited resource population and culturally diverse population. Bilingual Spanish is required. Must possess experience in verbal and written communications, clinical and case management, department operations, public relations and superior customer service skills.
