Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Pharmacy Technician on a fixed term contract whilst one of our technician's is on maternity leave. You will work along side our pharmacists, pharmacy technician and prescribing teams. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career in Primary Care working with the two practices in our Primary Care Network as part of our multi disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Your role will include:

Dealing with patient medication queries Preparing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice policy Processing discharge summaries and adding medication changes from 111 reports and clinic letters Working within both practice prescription teams as well as communicating with the broader practice MDT and community pharmacies

Advising patients on their medication or any possible side effects

Work with patients to promote healthy lifestyle choices

About us

Wantage Primary Care Network has a list size of approximately 31,000 patients. The practices share the same ethos of supportive learning and jointly occupy a modern health centre.

You will work alongside our GPs, nurse teams, administrators and extended workforce including clinical pharmacists, a pharmacy technician, first contact physiotherapists, mental health practitioner, frailty practitioners, care co-ordinators, social prescribers and Children & Young Persons wellbeing worker.

Both practices have a commitment to mentoring and supporting their clinical staff.

Job responsibilities

We are seeking a proactive, forward-thinking Pharmacy Technician to join our PCN Team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be working with the PCN Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician and our prescribing teams. You will be skilled and competent to be able to work on your own as well as part of a team to deliver an optimal service.

Applicants must meet the essential criteria in the job specification.

You will be required to:

Process repeat medication requests, including the conversion of acute requests to repeat medicines, changing quantities of medicines

To establish positive working relationships and effective communication with the CCG, network practices, integrated care health and care teams, and a range of local voluntary sector and community organisations

To document interventions made to patients’ medications in their health care records to ensure there is a clear audit trail and changes are clearly accounted for

Purpose

To provide Technical and Clinical Support to the team to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients along with resolving any patient queries.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

·Following agreed practice prescribing standard operating procedures

·Processing repeat medication requests and preparing prescriptions

·Dealing with medication queries and providing appropriate advice and guidance

Processing discharge summaries and adding medication changes from 111 reports and clinic letters

·Maintaining Compliance with protocols

·Working within both practice prescription teams as well as communicating with the broader practice MDT and community pharmacies

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

GPhC Registration NVQ L3 or equivalent qualification in pharmacy services Skills and Personal Qualities: Effective communication Understanding of pharmacy laws, ethics and terminology Knowledge of principle of optimisation Good IT skills and knowledge of clinical systems Excellent organisation skills Team player Administration skills Ability to work well under pressure and to tight timescales Self-motivated and proactive Excellent customer service skills Professional telephone manner Analytical and Problem solving skills Confident with Data Entry

Desirable

BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy. Computer literate with an ability to use the required GP clinical systems (EMIS and Docman) Understand the aims of current healthcare policy within the PCN
