Construction Project Manager

Gatwick Airport

40 hours, Monday – Friday. Hybrid working available

As a Project Manager at London Gatwick, each day brings unique challenges. You'll have the opportunity to lead strategic projects across our entire customer journey.

From concept to execution, as a Project Manager, you'll have the opportunity to lead the full project lifecycle on a wide variety of impactful projects, in a live environment, and be instrumental in shaping the future of one of the world's busiest airports.

Our projects vary across the airport, with our smaller works division delivering projects ranging from £500k through to £10m. The current project portfolio ranges from retail unit refurbishments and fit-outs, International Departure Lounges (IDL) refurbishments with full FFE through to dilapidated buildings needing to be updated to meet our NetZero commitment.

What is the role?

Reporting to the Programme Manager/Senior Project Manager, you'll be responsible for taking complex projects through various stages, from design and procurement to construction and delivery. You'll be focused high quality results and handing over the project confident in the knowledge you have played a pivotal role in helping London Gatwick deliver something impactful for the business and its customers.

Other duties include:

Ensuring projects are completed within the planned budget, timeline and quality/compliance standards. Also, leading the smooth transfer of the project to the relevant departments ensuring Airport Operational Readiness planning and activities are in place Continuously developing and upholding world-class health, safety, and environmental standards across projects and associated contractors. We aim to achieve health, safety and environmental excellence. Uncovering and finding solutions to challenges and risks throughout the projects, highlighting these to contractors, and making sure project timelines stay on track and the airport continues to operate smoothly without disruptions Taking responsibility for fulfilling laws and statutory obligations applicable to the project, including compliance with standards and necessary planning permissions Helping the team grow by contributing to the development of standards, managing, motivating, coaching and mentoring team members. You'll be excited about helping talented individuals reach their potential.

What are we looking for?

The live environment at London Gatwick requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, with problem solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in projects from inception to completion you will work alongside multiple stakeholders. In addition, this role requires:

Previous experience as a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager delivering large projects or multi-year programmes within the construction or infrastructure sectors, typically over £10 million. A background in construction including working on projects focused on Retail, Property or Car Parking would be desired. Qualified to practitioner level in project management (e.g., APMP Project Management Qualification or PRINCE2 Practitioner) Experience in leading teams, managing external suppliers and contractors Experiencing handling several projects at the same time, especially when they need to work together or overlap in some way Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas in a simple way to multiple stakeholders
