ROLE SUMMARY
The purpose of this role is to support the Architectural team to deliver exceptional work on a wide range of commercial, residential, heritage and rural projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

Production of technical information and project running for RIBA work stage 4 onwards including: develop detail design/working drawings, prepare building regs and tender packs, undertake contract admin and site supervision. Support architectural team: record and develop client brief, surveys, prepare and lodge planning applications. Support team with technical input across all work stages. Work pro-actively with the Planning team to ensure a seamless service to clients. Work closely with the client to understand their requirements and specifications. Be flexible and creative in the approach to projects to ensure the best possible outcome for client and commercial success. Work collaboratively within a team or take a lead role in managing a project or project stage as the project requires.  React quickly to any client-led changes and ensure deadlines and standards are met.  Provide progress updates / review meetings with relevant parties: ensure key client and project decisions are recorded. Attend and lead client meetings across all work stages. Collaborate positively with internal and external stakeholders.  Continuously support the Practice in maintaining a client focused culture.  Keep project administration and records up to date.  Record project time accurately in Xero.  Early notification of concerns regarding project budget/time in order to proactively manage with the client.  Assist with reviewing project fee budgets vs actual time/cost, to inform future fee budgets. Assist in developing CAD and office standards. Actively suggest ideas and material for Smith Simmons and Partners social media channels.  Attend office CPD event and put forward relevant CPD suggestions.

OTHER 

To carry out any other reasonable tasks in accordance with operational needs as reasonably requested.  To undertake training and development as deemed necessary. To represent Smith Simmons and Partners professionally at all times. 

PERSON SPECIFICATION – ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST 

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 3 years’ post qualification experience in a UK architectural practice.  Proven track record of supporting architectural projects to the highest standards through all RIBA stages. Relevant experience in UK construction. Relevant client-facing experience. 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Strong understanding of design and construction processes. Excellent technical knowledge and understanding of current UK building regulations and other relevant legislation.  Confident running projects across all stages. Good understanding of the planning application process.  Knowledge and understanding of administering standard JCT (or equivalent) contracts. Up to date technical and product knowledge. Up to date IT skills / software knowledge.

ABILITIES AND ATTITUDE  

Ability to present work to clients in an inspiring, engaging, professional and creative manner. Organised, with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and work to deadlines.  Ability to absorb complex information, assess requirements and create innovative solutions.  Ability to work effectively and make informed decisions under pressure.  Excellent eye for detail.  Ability to use expertise and design flair to provide creative direction and solutions to projects.  Ability to communicate confidently and articulately.  Enthusiastic and collaborative approach.  Ability to both work independently and collaborate with teams as projects require. Excellent AutoCAD and Microsoft Office skills are essential.  Proficiency in Photoshop and Sketchup advantageous. A professional and respectful manner with a smart and presentable appearance at all times.  To be a supportive team member and work across the Practice to maintain a one company culture. A driven and proactive attitude and approach to work and CPD 

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

Professional qualification (CIAT/MCIAT) is essential. An HNC, HND or degree level qualification (BA or BSc) in an architectural or construction-based subject is essential. 

OTHER

Due to the need to get to and from various site locations (some of which are rural), as and when required, a full and valid UK driving licence with own transport is essential.  Ability to undertake relevant training as required.
