Job summary

Are you a Speech & Language Therapist looking for your next step in a supportive multi-disciplinary team?

Would you love to be involved in developing new school aged therapy resources in specialist settings?

We are seeking a qualified Speech & Language Therapist to join our Children and Young People's Integrated Therapy team (CYPIT).

You'll plan and manage your own varied school-age caseload and deliver services using an impact-based model of clinical decision making. You'll have 2 days working in mainstream schools and 2 days in specialist settings.

Be at the forefront of establishing a new resource base for children with autism and with learning difficulties. Contribute to the development of a second new resource base providing social, emotional, and mental health support for a small group of children. Enhance your knowledge and skills within the wider multi-disciplinary school-age therapy team. Work alongside Occupational Therapists and specialist teachers. Benefit from supervision and shadowing opportunities from experienced therapists.

This is a Band 6 permanent role for 4 days per week. The role qualifies for additional HCAS payment. Locations are all very accessible from Reading and near the M4, but being a driver is essential for this role. There is also opportunity for home working.

Work autonomously to provide high quality assessment, diagnosis and interventions for children and young people with developmental / complex needs Provide specialist therapy input into clinical services within a designated area/team Contribute to embedding the Care Aims approach used within our service Work in an integrated way with therapy colleagues to meet the needs of children and families Be involved in the development and delivery of training packages Contribute to embedding universal and targeted strategies within specialist resource settings

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

Professional Qualification Professional knowledge acquired through degree/ diploma supplemented by post graduate diploma specialist training, experience, short courses plus further specialist Training Able to demonstrate an understanding of the diverse needs of children and young people.

Desirable

Clinical educators' course Member of relevant clinical specialist interest group Able to demonstrate required clinical knowledge of up to date children's Speech and Language Therapy interventions and service issues

Training

Essential

Recognised CPD in area of clinical specialism Able to demonstrate understanding of a neurodevelopmental approach to the management of CYP

Desirable

Experience with the assessment and delivery of AAC Post graduate clinical experience and working knowledge in specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Experience of supervision and training of junior therapists/ Assistant staff and/or other professionals Willingness to undertake leadership and management training and development

Previous Experience

Essential

Minimum 1 years post qualification experience in adults or paediatrics

Desirable

Experience of working with families from a wide variety of backgrounds including age and ethnicity Experience of working with CYP with communication difficulties and supporting CYP with physical and/or learning difficulties

Evidence of a value system which puts the child at the heart of actions Evidence of an understanding of the diverse needs of children and young people Able to demonstrate a clinical knowledge and familiarisation with a range of standardised and non-standardised assessment tools relevant to speech and language therapy interventions Able to use IT to support and innovate clinical development Evidence of recent relevant CPD to a specialist level Excellent, succinct written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of current professional and statutory issues Ability to work across professional boundaries to effect seamless family care Ability to self motivate Ability to act as a role model and leader to others, in adopting change

Desirable

Evidence of experience with managing dysphagia Evidence of an understanding and application of Care Planning approaches, and evidence of a belief in its value Experience in managing less senior staff Ability to work in a calm and confident manner in stressful situations Ability to work successfully as part of a multi-disciplinary team
