An opportunity has arisen for an Orthoptist to join our team of orthoptists and visual field technician/orthoptic support workers working alongside the wider ophthalmology team with Consultant Paediatric & Adult Strabismus/Neuro-Ophthalmologists and hospital optometrists where the service handles a varied caseload of paediatric and adult motility including emergency referrals via the Acute referral clinic(ARC).

Clinical duties include general orthoptic clinics, joint clinics with ophthalmologists and optometry, and orthoptic delivered ‘See for School’ pre-school vision screening service within nursery settings with Orthoptic assistants.

The post is mainly based at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in central Edinburgh with clinics in health centre community settings and at nurseries for delivery of the pre-school orthoptic vision screening service.

The department has a commitment to clinical teaching of undergraduate students including orthoptic, medical & pre-registered optometry students. There is an active mentoring programme to support new graduates and the department actively participates in CPD and audit/research.

A diploma/degree in Orthoptics with HCPC registration and excellent clinical knowledge/ communication skills are required.
