Rail / Civil Engineering
Location – Warrington (North West Region – LNW Maintenance)
Site based – travel required
COSS Supervisors are required to join our asset management team based in Warrington in the North West region. Working in gangs to deliver small reactive and planned maintenance schemes and remits for our client Network Rail. Work will be varied / general civils. Excellent prospects to join and develop within an established team.
Business Unit
A busy and fast paced rail maintenance and asset management project environment. The business unit consists of ‘small’ maintenance projects both reactive and planned around the rail network. They are responsible for the maintenance and repair of rail assets in a long term framework / contract agreement with works typically ranging in type, scale and value.
Projects can typically include repair and maintenance to bridges, tunnels, structures, culverts, stations, embankments, flood and weather damage, signage, de-vegetation, fencing, handrails etc.
The Role
COSS Supervisor you will ensure the completion of designated tasks on site under the supervision of the Site Foreman, ensuring the works are completed without harm to people, the environment and targeting zero defects. Day to day duties and responsibilities will typically include but not be limited to:
- Promote continuous improvement culture and the use of best practice.
- Effective leadership, supervision, utilisation and monitoring of Direct and Subcontract Labour Force.
- Delivery of works within programme and to budget, ensuring that the works are executed in accordance with the requirements of:
- All applicable legislation
- The Terms and Conditions of the contract
- The Contract Health and Safety Plan
- The Contract Quality / Environmental Plan
- The clients approved Works Package Plans and Task Briefing Sheets
- The approved Construction Drawings and Specification
- The Policies and Procedures contained within the Company Business Management System
- Ensure that Quality standards are achieved and are ‘right first time’
- Monitor of the progress of the works to ensure contract objectives are being met
- Ensure that, changes to the scope of works are identified, agreed, implemented and effectively managed
- Ensure that robust records are maintained i.e. diaries, allocation sheets, plant etc.
- Provide formal reports on progress to the Project Manager/Site Agent
- Ensure that all relevant issues, which cannot be resolved at site level, are passed for the attention of the Project Manager / Site Agent
- Identify and Implement training needs for directly employed operatives employees under their control
Requirements
To excel in this role, you will have previous experience as a Civils Operative or Tradesperson in a rail and civil engineering environment.

- COSS
- Experience in this type of role in a rail and civils infrastructure contracting environment.
